Unhappy Battery Life

Just want to ask if anyone has a problem with the Orizon battery life?

I'm lucky if mine lasts more than a week reading no more than an hour a day

I also have found that sometimes the reader has turned itself on to the book that I'm reading or at least changed the screensaver during the day when it's just sitting on my bedside table...

Is there a setting for this or is my reader on the blink?

My other half has a Opus and his lasts at least a month with the same reading time per day

Thanks for any thoughts

Nadine, I don't own the Orizon myself, so these are only some guesses:

- Do you put off the reader completely or only send it to sleep mode? Does it make a difference?
- Can you put off the wifi or is it on the whole time?

Of course, there can always be a problem with the battery itself.

Thanks...I think it's due me putting it into sleep mode rather than turning it off completely...at least I'm not going mad ;-)

Supposedly we are supposed to get 2-3 weeks of reading 2 hours a day from a single battery charge - Bookeen states about 10,000 page turns.

In reality it is about 1,500 to 2,000 page turns, or for me about two 350 page books.

I also feel that their battery promise is extremely disappointing. If I had been told I would get what I have I would have been happy, but it is no where near what they state.

I have found that shutting down the Orizon and starting it up again uses about the same power as a day in "Instant Off" (standby) mode, so generally you are better off just using Instant Off.

Ah, I really though this had to do with stand by mode. Weird.

Interesting, Rick, that you too are finding the battery way inferior than that specified on their site. It might be worth an email to them ? I've always found them helpful in the past.

Another "annoyance" is that in order to find how much battery you have left, you have to go onto your home screen, thereby using more of that precious battery...

If I had my time again I'd probably go for the Opus.

I contacted bookeen support about this. apparently a week with 1.5 hours a day (what I asked about) is "expected battery life" (although it does say three weeks on there website). I am also told that turning off the orizon instead of putting it in sleep mode lowers power consumption by 30%.

I'm still on a quest to improve the battery life and I found something by accident which seems to be doing the trick.

As I read a lot in bed, I wanted to fix the screen so it wouldn't reorientate itself everytime I moved about so I turned off the accelerometer.

After a week of reading I still have 6 bars left which is a major improvement and most likely due to me switching off this function :-) Lets hope it continues !

Thanks for that heads up !

I've just left a comment on their site asking just that...I'll let you know what they say when I get a reply ;-)

Quote:
I’ve just updated my Orizon with this upgrade and so far I’m very happy with the changes.

One question I’d like to ask is “how has the battery life been improved?”

This is something that both myself and other Orizon users have been very disappointed with (Ref https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...32#post1596132).

The number of page turns is far inferior to that published on this site i.e. around 2000 instead of 10 000

Nadine, I don't have an Orizon but what I wonder is : Have you turned off the Wifi? I know that Kobo and Amazon claims their e-readers have a months battery time (or more), but that is with the WIFI off. If the Wifi is on the battery time is 10 days or so.
