ebook format with notes
hi,
I'm searching for an ebook format that has the ability to store notes upon words.
I know that pdf can do something similar, but notes are not sticked to single words, but floats on the page... which is very incomfortable for me..
I'm learning a foreign language and I want to note the translation on single words, and maybe list all translations and export to text...
is it possible?

Kobo eBook format can attach notes to words which are selected on the device but only on eBooks purchased from the Kobobook store. I think Kindle can also attach notes to words.

Actually, its the ebook reader, either software or device, that enables notetaking and not the file format.

The Kindle devices and Kindle for PC, their software app for Windows, allow such notetaking. I presume, though haven't personally used, the other Kindle for ... software readers will do the same.

These notes are associated with a particular instance of the word or phrase selected. Should the same word or phrase appear elsewhere, the note will not be associated with it. That is, if you encounter a phrase in chapter 3 that is the same as one in chapter 1 that you annotated you won't be able to directly access that earlier note from the instance in chapter 3. You would have to access the notes from the menu and scroll through the list until you found the older chapter 1 note. This isn't hard at all, but could be a bit tedious if there are lots and lots of notes.

You don't state your platform/device. On my Mac and iPad there are several apps that allow notes but the only thing I've found that allows notes to go back and forth between my Mac and iPad is Kindle (the mbp note file MUST be generated on the iPad to be compatible on both.)

I'm talking about public domain stuff here... not purchased books which are automatically "synced."
