SD cards and Kobo
I have had intermittent problems with the Kobo, mostly just crashing. I had an idea - remove the 2gb SD card. Well, no problems with the Kobo after removal. I left it out for a week, and just re-inserted it, and the Kobo began right away to misbehave.
This leaves me wondering ![]() |

I wish there was a place to look at a list of "Things not to do with your Kobo."
Ever since I got my Kobo, I've been keeping a mental list of stuff I should avoid, so my Kobo will be as painless to run as possible. Not using the SD card function is on that list. Lucky for me, I have very simple needs with my Kobo. I only want to read. |

is it an sd hc card? i think somewhere on the forums here it was mentioned that the hc cards don't work so well. i could be wrong and read it completely wrong but i think that's what it said. i have a 1gb sd card that i've tried a couple of times but with the amount of space on the internal i have no problems carrying what i need around with me.

I tried using an SD card the other week - just to try it out - and had no crashes. But the battery seemed to run down quicker (possibly because it was re-indexing every time it turned the device on?)

I have been using an 8GB SDHC card with zero issues in my Original Kobo. I put zero side-loaded books onto the main memory, and while I used Calibre to convert various documents into epub format, I did not use Calibre to copy the files onto the Kobo. I simply put the SDHC card into my reader, plugged in to my computer, and did the standard file copies as if it were an external drive on my computer.
Mind you, I have used less than 1GB of space out of the entire 8GB. Mostly free books from a promotion Tor had a couple of years ago, plus pretty much the entirety of the Baen free CDs, both either their original epub files or else mobi files converted to epub via Calibre. |
