Looking for RPG reader

Hello all.

I am a young man with a dream, the dream of not hogging the entire table with books when we play pathfinder (form of dungeons and dragons/rollplaying game). My group have been starting to buy iPads to overcome the lack of space for cross referring in books, but I have found that reading on one of those, while it looks nice, is not as easy on the eyes. Also hey seem to always run out of power, like all the time.

While I like the idea of having everything in color that is not a must. I do however have a budget, being a student.

As a student I often get bundles of PDFs for reading, and I would like to be able to use the eBook reader for that purpose as well.

I have no need for games and other cool applications, I just look up rules and read stuff for my masters.
I hope you have a recommendation for me as I have been trying to find the right eBook reader for me.

The books I read will be A4 most of the time, and I would like to be able to see the whole thing at a time without making the text to small.

A side note is that there are always fancy pictures in all material I read (be it models or illustrations) so I would want something that could accommodate that as well.

Hope you can help me
Thanks in advance

Benjamin

thinking about the same (RPG) already long ago.
Short answer: forget it
long answer - since one needs multiple rulebooks open and fast-searcheable
it cannot be done with actual tech - no reader supports something similar to "open multiple files (in tabs)" and "fast+eink" doesn't really fit.

sorry pal

Tablets seem like the answer for this, but in practice you want to type and execute searches quickly across multiple files. It may seem old hat, but I reckon a netbook is more practical. Particularly as you don't have to prop the device up on anything.

Check out the enTourage eDGe. I'm not 100% certain it will work for your gaming, and the price will depend on where you buy it (also the company is in some trouble), BUT you get 2 screens interconnected, one eink and one Android LCD. The power use is probably similar to the iPad (I leave mine plugged in whenever possible). It was originally designed with students in mind. Good for annotating as well as reading pdfs.

Pathfinder RPG is mostly contained in one book. I used my touchscreen HP TX2 tablet for a while for it.

You'd need a tablet with a pretty large screen though. The main Pathfinder RPG book worked well on my TX2 (12.1"). I'm sure a 10.1" tablet of some sort would work.

E-ink isn't great for quickly flipping through / browsing documents IMO. Stick with an LCD tablet or a tablet PC for heavy PDF flipping.

@GreenMonkey
that's exactly the reason why I said "forget it" to him.
With the current state of tech the goal requested isn't reachable.
