Referb readers
For those that have been brave enough to purchase a referb, have you had any quality problems with your reader?

None at all.
I've picked up the odd refurbished computer and printer over the years and never got a bad one. Ditto for my refurbished Kindle2. If helps to understand that refurbs are *all* individually tested in the recertification process, unlike new gear that is generally *sampled* by lot. Different companies have different procedures/guidelines but refurbs aren't always returned gear; sometimes they come from lots that fail quality assurance en-masse and then have to go through individualized testing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refurbishment_(electronics) |

My first Sony was a refurb.
My Nook is a refurb. I have bought several factory refurbished other items over the years. Not a problem so far! <knocking on head> |

My k2 was bought as a refurb and it is still going strong.
I buy a good portion of our electronics as refurbs though so I didn't feel uncomfortable with the thought. I really don't consider it brave because nearly every major retailer gives the same warranty on refurbs as new. |

One of my bebooks and the 505 are factory refurbs, both looked as new when received - no problems at all.
Ok, the 505 had a cracked screen but that looked like shipping damage and was sorted out by waterstones no prob. |

I've bought several refurb Kindle models, as backups, and they look & perform identically to the new models. Haven't had any problems, and Amazon offers the same warranty on refurbs as on new models.

I buy most of my computers, iPads, iPods Touch, etc such as refurbished units from the Apple store. Never had any problems at all.

I buy refurb stuff all the time, and never had a problem. I just ordered a Nook wi-fi refurb. It hasn't arrived yet, but I don't expect any problems.

Out of all the refurbished units I've purchased... I've not had any functional issues with any of them. There's been a couple cosmetic "issues," but nothing past a scratch or scuff on a non-integral part of the device.

I have bought lots of refurbished electronic devices, including three e-readers, and have had no more problems with them than with the gadgets I buy new. As one poster said, sometimes you wind up with the odd cosmetic scuff or ding here or there, but more often I find that refurb stuff looks just like new - although there almost always is some modification of the nameplate or backplate, like an engraved "R" or "refurb" on it, to indicate its "not-new" status. I also find that sometimes, but not always, refurb gear has a shorter warranty.
