				Goodbye for ever Bookeen

I loved my Bookeen Gen 3, it was my first ebook reader and still is in my hearth. August last year I sent it to change the screen and paid a little more than 130 Euro to get it repaired. At that time there where already ebook readers that where less expensive (USA, in $) than the cost of the repair, but again I loved my ebook reader... Last month the screen broke again. I wrote to Bookeen asking if there was a warranty on the changed screen and the customer service told me that no, it's again 130 euro. NO WAY! I don't think the 6" screen of the Gen3 is so different from the Kobo's one and the Kobo I ordered (no wifi) it's only 78$. So why is the repair so expensive? Anyway I'm expat in Vietnam and only twice a year I go back home, in Italy. Reliability is an issue, when here it's impossible to have something fixed and that's the reason I've more than one ebook reader. So goodbye Bookeen and I cant say no bad feelings. |

Why? because Kobo sell it with negative margins.

So it might be also for Kindle and Nook. It might be that they get their earnings from the ebooks they sell. As I said I loved my Gen 3 but I did not marry it. Kindle V3 gives me pearl e-ink and lookup dictionary for less than the price of Gen 3's screen. I got the Kobo for half the price of Gen 3's screen, may be it's a basic reader but if you stick to epubs it works. Again, goodbye Bookeen... |

What exactly is your complaint? Part and repair costs for *EVERYTHING* are far higher than when bought as part of a new assembled product. Just look at the car parts! They are anywhere from 2x to 10x more expensive. I just bought a simple sprocket (really just a single metal piece, nothing fancy) that cost 10% of the new chainsaw price. So Bookeen is no worse than others. You mentioned warranty but didn't explain who screen broke 2 times. My device is old without a single scratch. How did you manage to break 2 screens?!?!?! Perhaps you should take personal responsibility before blaming the company. In general everyone knows it is often cheaper to replace entire device than replace a major/expensive part. Few people replace engine in their cars. |
