Kottke: The Pale King now available..but not on Kindle yet

http://kottke.org/11/04/the-pale-king-now-available

Quote:
But in a move that's either clever or stupid, the ebook version of the book isn't available for the Kindle or for iBooks until April 15. Is this a ploy to get people to buy more hardcover copies? Or just sort of a "we didn't really think about this" situation?
It's interesting how discussions on MR (i.e. publishers delaying eBooks to allow for hardcover sales) play out in the "real world" (Not that Jason Kottke is necessarily more "real world" than MR, but he's probably more the mainstream in terms of the blogosphere, at least-hope he does some digging of his own)

edit: Interesting-apparently it wasn't just the eBook version that was delayed-also independent booksellers:
http://thegreenapplecore.blogspot.co...editorial.html
Quote:
So when word began spreading Wednesday morning that the novel was available on Amazon and the Barnes & Noble website two weeks before its "official" publication date, independent booksellers--yours truly among them--were left to wonder why the book was not yet on our shelves. (As if Amazon, with its predatory pricing scheme, needs the boost it surely got by having an in-demand book available before most retailers.)

So much for fair competition.

Considering it will take most mere mortals a year to get through the books, I think the two week delay won't kill anybody.

(his essays are fantastic. I also really like Brief Interviews... Infinite Jest I couldn't handle. Maybe I'll try it again some other time)

Meh.... Someone just screwed up on the book release date.

By the way, it looks like it's widely available now, including for Kindle and at Powell's. That might be a response to the glitch, who knows.
