FireFox 4 for PB IQ 701?
Hi,
I have just installed FF4 on my main machine (fantastic browsers, by the way, a huge improvement on 3.6!) and I saw that it is also available for Android. Except, that PB IQ 701 users do not have access to the (accursed) Android Market. Is there a site from which I could download the APK of FF4? Thanks! Farhad |

A quick web search of: Firefox4 apk march 2011...
...results in a list including this: http://software2tech.com/tag/mozilla-firefox-apk/ Which offers up the download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?me3myfbdfyz092x |

Firefox has a consistent path of memory clogging, even though it is fast and reliable. I'm not sure that it will work too fluidly on a memory-constrained tablet as is the IQ.

You'll need app2sd installed and running.

ok, here is where I get thoroughly confused. a quick search for app2sd on google gave me quite a few sites from which to download the APK file. I got one from megaupload. Fine. But, how do I know that:
a) this is the latest version? b) the one I got is not rootkit-ed or otherwise corrupted?! With this @%#&* "Android market" being both a quasi-monopoly for Android applications, and with the PBIQ not able to download from it, are we really left with just taking a chance each time?! I looked for app2sd on SlideME and got all sorts of garbage, but not this application. I looked for app2sd on Freewarelovers with exactly the same result. So an application like app2sd is not available from the two sites I was recommended when I got my PBIQ. Why are there no PBIQ repos maintained by PocketBook themselves?! Sorry if I am totally missing a point here, but I find this constant hunt for basic applications really frustrating. ![]() What am I missing here ![]() Thanks for any explanations of the bizarre "Android on PBIQ" world... you need to get a2sd not app2sd.
you can get a2sd working on your IQ by either: 1. Coredump-EE' method: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...oredump+repack in particular: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=125 2. unofficial a2sd flash: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...nofficial+a2sd You may have to run it twice if you have Coredump-EE's repack 3. As of this morning and thanks to Icewyng, you can also use this: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=127092 I have not tried this method yet so can't say how well it works. Cheers Last edited by hiaig; 03-26-2011 at 09:36 AM. Reason: add 3rd method |

In spite of FF's memory-hot reputation, I still would have installed it--except for it's size. Upwards of 13MB is just too much for the IQ's Very limited internal memory.
Which brings up a pet peeve with the IQ--the 2GB of internal memory just isn't enough. Does anyone know if the internal micro SD can be upgraded to at least a 4GB chip? Thanks for the great forum! |

It is much easier to purchase a larger SD for the external slot. In fact, I replaced the internal 2GB with a 1GB card because I don't keep files on the internal card. Cheers |

Sorry, but I still don't understand where you guys get your applications from. Whom do you trust to provide the latest, non-corrupted applications?!

I found pretty much everything I needed in the android section of freeware lovers.
And, of course, here at mobileread. Plenty of good links in the various threads. Things should be easier now that the Amazon android store is open. |
