PDF output Size is huge

Hi,

I'm trying to convert a book from html or epub to pdf but the pdf size is like 220 MB while the html is only 400k
Any ideas what could be the issue?

this is the shell session: https://gist.github.com/883478

I'm using ebook-convert (calibre 0.7.50)
Also the pdf layout is broken, titles show 50% off the page.

Are you on OS X?

PDF output is broken on OS X. It is an upstream issue with Qt which calibre uses for PDF output.

OS X PDF Function

Actually you can use the built in Save to PDF option in OS X. Just open the e-book in calibre and in the side menu, click print. Hit Save to PDF. I converted 5 books which came out to over 200 MB using calibre. Using the Save to PDF option each book came out to under 2.5 MB.

Using the ebook viewer to print has the disadvantage of removing almost all styling. Printing using calibre applys a print styling suitable for printing to paper.
