Battery life with repack firmware
I maybe should have used this thing with the stock firmware for a week but alas I put the repack on it ten minutes after opening the box!
Anyway I noticed that the battery life even with the wifi off is quite dismal. I am only getting about 4 hours out of a charge. Last night I noticed that in a dark room I could see the "swipe to unlock" screen. The back light was off and it was a very dim image but I'm sure the screen is actually still on. I do have a few apps installed that may cause it to stay on. Things like K9-Mail, Doggcatcher, gmail so I'm thinking it might be one of these keeping the screen on. Has anyone else noticed this and is there a fix for it? Thanks Urban Nightmare -- Living the dream |

First you need to know whether the IQ is really shutting off or not before you can gage battery usage.
If you want to test battery usage, I suggest powering the IQ off ... even though I am sure that the process of powering it on also uses battery unnecessarily. Personally, I don't find the repack any different from the original firmware in terms of battey usage. I started a thread a while back re the IQ not sleeping and wakes up at odd time to drain battery. So far, no one has been able to find a fix for this yet. Cheers |

If I press and hold the power button the menu pops up where you can select Silent Mode, Airplane mode or Power Off. If I select power off it does indeed power down and doesn't use any battery. When I look at the screen in a dark room I don't see the screen like I do when I just do a quick press of the power button.
Not saying this has anything to do with the repack. I was just saying that I didn't have the original firmware on it long enough to notice if it did the same thing. I have noticed the wake up problem also but I also get that with my Android phone (Milestone v1). I think that has more to do with applications that are running that wake up the phone to do checks. Things like Doggcatcher (podcast client) does a check every 6 hours for new podcasts but when I do the quick power button press to turn off the screen I don't see the same things as I do on the IQ. So like I say not sure if its an app I'm running or the firmware or if this is normal. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this as I'm sure that because the screen is not turned off it is still draining power. |

Here is the thread that I started:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ghlight=waking This issue also occurs with the original firmware. You are correct that it is most likely an app that is waking the IQ up. Even if you do not add any additional apps to the IQ, the existing apps on the original IQ will randomly wake the IQ up. Cheers |

Interesting. I've cleared and installed the repack (20110118) and put in my androidid and setup email and wireless. Only other app installed is cool reader. I'll watch for the screen issue for a day and see what happens.
Thanks for your input. I'll check out that other thread. |
