Question questions on epub and lrf and cleaning up book

Did a search and didn't find any info on this so hope someone can help me.

I have a Sony 900 and since it is eweek and Smashwords has a lot of free books and discounted ones (some free, some half or other) I picked up several books.

I have been downloading them using epub. But later saw one that said Sony Reader lrf.

I read on another thread Deals, . . . Resources) that some of the books had to be cleaned up, such as correcting such aspects as grammer, periods left out and other problems.

So questions

should I have downloaded in the Sony lrf format and not the epub?

If I do the epub do I have to have the ADE (I think Smashwords is DRM free, am I wrong?)?

Would I need the ADE with lrf?

If I have to do some cleaning up of the books which format woul be better?

Okay, I think that is it, sorry to bother with what may be simple questions, but still not comfortable with downloading books yet.

You only need to worry about ADE if the book is encrypted with DRM. The free ones at SmashWords are not. ePubs are really a type of zip file, so there are several programs, including Sigil, that will let you open the ePub and make changes.

Sonys will open both LRF and ePub formats. They might display differently; I seem to recall that the LRF format did a better job on the 900s with right justification. Which format to download is personal preference, based on how you like them on the reader. Calibre will convert to and from ePub and LRF, so you can also download the ePub, make the corrections, convert to LRF and load on your reader.
