iPad mystery
Hello all, glad to meet you!
I'm attempting to download via Calibre a pdf to an iPad. After my first attempts unaided failed I went to this forum seeking help. I thought I found it when I followed these steps: Quick start: 'Connect to iTunes' mode Launch iTunes with no connected iDevices. In iTunes Preferences|Advanced, uncheck Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library. This tells iTunes to use calibre's copies of your books. Launch calibre, set Preferences: Preferences|Behavior|Preferred output format to EPUB Preferences|Conversion|common options|page setup|Output profile to iPad Preferences|Plugins|Device Interface plugins|Apple device interface - click Enable/Disable plugin so that driver is disabled (grayed out). This disables direct connection to the iDevice, and makes it possible to use the 'Connect to iTunes' method below. It is still possible to customize the plugin, as these settings are shared among the various Apple device drivers. Restart calibre. Select Send to device↓Connect to iTunes to connect iTunes as a Reader device. Alas, after doing this I couldn't even get the iPad's icon to appear at the top of Calibre! What am I missing here? Again, nice to be here. Jon |

Do you get a "Device" icon appearing with an iTunes type icon ? Also, if you are connected you should get a "Connected iTunes" added to the status message at the bottom of the Calibre screen.
In this mode that is what should appear rather than an iPad looking one. If not, do you have iTunes already started when you select the "Connect to iTunes" option? |

Customize the plugin to enable transfer of PDF files:
After transferring the PDF to iTunes, transfer the book from iTunes to your connected iDevice either by syncing or manually dragging. G |
