Historical Mystery Anthology: Puzzles From The Past ($1,99)

If you enjoy a little history with your mystery, Puzzles From The Past will put a smile on your kisser and an “Oh Boy!” in your heart. Here’s the lowdown:

Puzzles From The Past is an anthology consisting of three action-packed mysteries heavily steeped in WWII intrigue and espionage. Crafted in ways that challenge readers to solve the mysteries right along with the stories’ characters, Puzzles evokes a sense that you are actually part of history itself.

Our first tale, a short story entitled E.A., begins when former Army Air Corp bomber pilot Chip Williams returns from Europe to find that his civilian job as an airline pilot has dissolved into thin air. He solves this dilemma by teaming up with an old friend to start a west coast air transport service. As Williams flies cargo between Los Angeles and Seattle, he finds himself intimately involved in a mystery that puts your imagination, as well as your knowledge of history, to the test. Will you solve it before he does?

Next comes the novella, Death By Dirigible, in which a Hollywood society matron hires cocky private detective Johnny Spicer to find her son. The son, she was told, died during the Hindenburg disaster, but she has reason to believe otherwise. Spicer sets off to investigate what he suspects is a cruel hoax and lands in the middle of an espionage scheme integral to Hitler’s plan for conquering the world. At a time when most Americans see the unrest brewing across the Atlantic as a problem that’s “over there,” our hero learns firsthand that its over here, too.

Puzzles From the Past concludes with the short story SNAFU. The title, a World War II acronym for “Situation Normal, All Fouled Up,” pretty well describes the circumstances facing brand new OSS Agent Daniel Colley when a routine research assignment goes drastically wrong. On a night train from Los Angeles to San Francisco, Colley comes face to face with a beautiful blonde, who also happens to be a Nazi agent. Or is she? Colley’s life and much more depend on him answering that question correctly.
