Hello first post here though I have been lurking awhile. I am having trouble syncing my kindle, My kindle is able to update and retrieve the furthest read location. Kindle for PC and my Kindle iPhone app are only able to retrieve the furthest read location, they do not update it. Which makes the feature somewhat useless. It is the same for amazon purchased content as for books I have added myself from other sources. I have tried de-registering the PC and iPhone app and re-registering them and I still have the same results.
any ideas what the problem might be ? I noticed the time on the files on the kindle is about 5 hours in the future, I am not sure if that could be part of the problem or not.. Last edited by Ron.; 03-03-2011 at 07:28 PM. Reason: sovled |

I'm guessing you're in the eastern US timezone... since that would put you 5 hours off of UTC. ![]() |

Also, you mentioned registering/deregistering but have you actually rebooted the Kindle (Menu->Settings->Menu->Restart)? **Note: you may have to reset the time again after a restart on the Wifi-only model. |

The Kindle WiFi system clock is set every time one syncs. One should sync before and after use to keep highlights and notes stored at the user Amazon Kindle site shown here:
https://kindle.amazon.com/your_reading There is a manual clock also on the Kindle WiFi which can be set under Settings off the Main Menu on Page 2. Pressing "Menu" brings up the manual clock at the top of the screen. Typing "Date" at the main menu and pressing the 5-Way key brings up the system time and date. |

I have the wifi k3. I have noticed on occasion that when I make a backup of files on it, the copied files on the computer will be about 4 or 5 hours AHEAD of the actual time and even the date will be off if that time difference moves to the next day. The time on the k3 shows correctly when I've checked. I am not sure what could cause the issue.
For instance the time here is now approx 7:30am, March 3 and the k3 shows the time correctly. I just checked - Calibre sent the following periodicals: Directory of I:\documents 03/03/2011 03:30 PM 740,813 Washington Post azw-asin_2b92d1bff7c820ca4baa7e770b358331128e6c93-0-azw-type_PDOC-v_0.azw 03/03/2011 03:30 PM 403,388 San Francisco Chronicle azw-asin_bad582b78ed50ee50d892ea6caa1f8f0385051e3-0-azw-type_PDOC-v_0.azw Both are timed at 3:30pm March 3. So they seem to be about 8 hours ahead. Maybe this is like that TV show where the guy got tomorrow's news today!!!! So, somewhere/somehow, the kindle is recording the wrong time for somestuff. Is K3 using Prime Meridian??? The I:\ drive is my kindle directly - it is not files from a backup. Those are two examples. There are other files similarly dated. I got no books at this juncture so I don't know if they are different. Can't blame Calibre for the TIMESTAMP in the k3's file directory. I had thought about asking about this anomaly but kept forgetting - this thread triggered it. I might ask in a separate thread.... Last edited by FF2; 03-03-2011 at 10:45 AM. |

Turn Wireless Off Shop in Kindle Store View Archived Items etc.. ? I tried typing date from there and pressing the 5 way controller and all that would happen is it opened whatever link I was on. I must of misunderstood your instructions. EDIT: I was able to get the system date to display and as expected it is set to GMT is there a way to change it, syncing has not changed it. here is what it displayed Quote:

You must register your unit with Amazon. They then set your system clock to the time zone of your account. That information gets transmitted to your unit when you sync.

Resovled
I just heard back from amazon customer service and discovered what the problem was. Annotation Backup was turned off on the kindle for PC app and on the kindle for iPhone app. that prevents them from updating the furthest read location. I enabled it on the PC app to test it out and it now works..
Hopefully someone will find this answer useful ![]() Last edited by Ron.; 03-03-2011 at 07:32 PM. Reason: spelling |

sneaky of them that's for sure, must be a new "feature" I can't be the first one to of disabled annotation backup. I had searched this forum, the official kindle forum and google and found no solution. I had never used annotations and disabled it long ago, I figured why share more data with amazon then I have to *shrugs*
