Hi, First i`d like to thank the creater and developers of this beautiful programs
Now , I started to use it in my Medical E-library projects but here are some comments hoping you can consider it in next versions. 1- Develop the research service to include words inside the book itself ( not only the titles and tages ) , like the service in Windows Search which has an option to search for a word included inside a file ( MS word . Excel .etc ) This will make Calibre fantastic and be unique a among other programs .. 2-Adding an option to Add " Video " Not only Books ,, for example i have teaching videos for medical students , but i can`t add them to Calibre . ofcourse with Screen-Sample for each Videos ( like Covers for Books ) 3-Add administrator account so , not every one can delete the books or change the setting for calibre , i mean any one can delete the whole library within minutes.. So u have to limit services provided to guests .. 4- When open calibre and viewing the books , make the default sequence with books which have the most common Views by students , i mean if " Anatomy Book " is commonly opened by guests , let it be in the first order in the sequence 4- Make the default way of viewing books in " 3D " style , not the classical old columns ,, because i didn`t know about 3D , untill i find it by chance .. which is actually very nice .. 5- Add the ability to add our own name at the top of Calibre , i mean i download the programs and i`ll spread it among my friends , so no harm if the customer can add his own name on the top of programs 6- Improve the style of the program , i suggest to make calibre for guests as full screen 3D style . no need to let him see " ADD ,Edit Metadata , view, etc " buttons, its enough to any guest to be able to view or search , i can image it full black background ( exactly as u did , but with full screen and removing other columns , especially the UPPER column { ADD ,VIEW ,EDIT } ) with little beautiful button open and slide smoothly when he click it ( it can be done with flash or any thing .. Thats for now ![]() |

The majority of your requests seem to be for very limited uses. Given the length of the list of things that already need to be done, and the number of people spread very thin between them, it's doubtful that there's going to be much attention paid to what amounts to "making it pretty for guests" -- especially since, as far as I know, only a small percentage of calibre users have guest users of any type to begin with.
Also, I can't see calibre being turned into a video indexing program. Aside from the platform issues, there are licensing issues for playback and even those sample video clips you recommend. I can think of no good reason for the developers of an ebook organizer to start trying to do other things when there are still so many ebook-related things that need to be done. Of course ... there's always the stock answer: Calibre is fully open and all the source is available, along with documentation, help, and advice for setting up a development environment. Code donations are certainly not frowned on! |

Video would actually be quite easy and we would be able to avoid all licensing issues. calibre uses Qt for the GUI and one of the components Qt has is called Phonon. It is essentially an abstraction around system provided video playback libraries. So adding video support to a Qt program is very easy, cross platform and since it uses system provided playback libraries, it's small and avoids all licensing issues. |

1 & 3 are done for you by windows.
it content indexes my docs by default so a word search of that finds words in books in calibre library which is within my docs, by default. ( that's in Win 7 - Xp may be less smart ) windows file attributes lets you control who has write / delete access to what files.. i expect other OS have similar facilities, seems pointless to want to dup. them within calibre itself. |

I suggest you investigate Calibre's content server. It won't do everything you want, but it does allow you to give people limited, read-only access to your library.

![]() I think a "Duplicate Calibre Library" AND give them a throw away 'Guest Account' (Your personal records are a exposed to mischief) on your system, otherwise. Baring other 'security' issues, the content server is a good alternate. |
