PRS-950 AC adapter/charger
Sony wants $25 for an AC adapter/charger for the PRS-950. Can I use my cell phone charger (micro USB) or is there a third party adapter available that wouldn't cost so much?

The 950 comes with the adapter in the box, unlike the 350 & 650 models which do not. Therefore you don't need to purchase one separately for the 950.

You can use your micro usb phone charger as well. I find this helps reduce the clutter.

Thanks for letting me know. I went to "trial" purchase the 950 at sonystyle.com and it listed the AC adapter as an option/accessory, giving me the impression that it may not be included. I've owned Sony products in the past where an AC adapter was not included so I wasn't sure.

Also, just so you are aware, there is no cover included like previous models. You will need to purchase a cover separately. If you do a search, then you will find several threads discussing recommended covers. By the way, I really do like my 950. It is my favorite ereader that I have owned over the years.

Try Walmart.com for covers. I bought two. ONe for my 950 and another one for my spouse. They are leather and really great. When I went to Walmart.com I did a search for the covers and you'll find them.

They make a variety of charging options that use interchangeable tips to set voltage, polarity and interface. I use a Charge Anywhere, which is a wall charger with a built in battery for charging when a wall outlet is not handy. Also two outputs, so can charge two devices at once. They also make a device that uses 2 AA batteries, for portable charging. With iGo, I can charge my PRS600 (round plug or mini USB), PRS650 and 350 (micro USB), Palm T/X, iPhone, BlueTooth headset, and any other small devices I might buy. Once charger, a small bag of tips. |
