Opus or Orizon?

Hi,

My Gen3 screen broke again yesterday so I'm in the market for a replacement.

I haven't seen much here comparing the Opus against the Orizon so I thought I'd ask people's opinions.

I'm edging towards an Opus at the moment because it's cheaper than the Orizon, however the Orizon does sound nice. Is the Orizon worth the extra money?

For those who have tried and used both, what are your opinions and recommendations?

Thanks
John

As the owner of both opus and orizon

The opus, being a 5" is smaller, with the right cover (like this http://www.bookeen.com/store/europe/...he-cybook.html), it's very handy to carry around. The opus can be in it's cover and still be held one handed.

The orizon is real thin even with the neoprene case. Didn't tried the other one. Tactile also brings improvements, notes, and other stuff.

They're both good devices. Guess the question there is : do you fell you might use annotations. And yeah, a 6" is a bit more comfortable.

I was there where you are now last November. I finally decided on the Opus (50 euro difference between the two) and don't regret one bit. Only recently I found these three reviews

Since I didn't have Orizon in my hands to test it I don't know to what extend these reviews would be accurate for me. But it confirmed my decision to go for Opus for the time being. I would like to see how much darker the Orizon screen is than the one of Opus.

First of all, the SD card sometimes just gets unmounted, but its files remain visible in the library. If you dare click one of them, you will either end up with an error popping-up or the file appearing a second time in the library until you reboot the device.
I never had the SD un-mounting itself. Unless in sleep mode, the orizon will detect the card is no longer there, and react accordingly.

The Orizon's main fault lies with its woeful Wi-Fi connectivity. I rarely was able to connect to a network, even when the e-reader displayed a 100% signal strength from the desired router.
Worked fine for me, save the fact typing on the virtual keyboard can be tedious.

I have to second the remarks about the browser being so-so. Maybe it will get better with updates, but for now.

Thanks,

In the end I've decided to go for the Opus. I just don't think I need the ability to annotate, and I'm happy to surf on my phone rather than on my e-reader so while Wi-Fi might be cool, I felt I couldn't justify the extra cost of the Orizon.

Finally, after a bit of price research, I found that Tesco Direct have the Opus for £130 with free delivery, so that settled it in the end.

It should arrive tomorrow
