Traveling to asia........
So, seems I'll be headed to China for work......my first international travel since entering the ebook world. A couple of questions,
Will wifi work? I assume buying ebooks won't work well while there........or will it? I'll have internet, will I be able to download books to my laptop and just use ADE to transfer them to my NC? I would think I could even download library books (my preferred method of getting books) to my computer while there? Assuming I can access my library accounts. Will library books I have checked out and on my nookcolor before leaving open up once there? Will the auto 21 day return be recognized? Should I just plan on having my own books available on my nookcolor to read (either purchased or the freebies) before leaving and don't count on library books? Feel free to answer any other question about Asia travel that I may not have even listed..........any tips? Thanks......... |

To buy books from the B&N website first start Hotspot Shield to get an US IP-addres than buy books from the B&N website. You only need the VPN (Hotspot Shield) to buy books. As soon as the books are bought they can be downloaded anywhere in the world. If your NC has a Wifi connection you can download the books on the NC. If your NC has no Wifi connection you need to download the books to your PC, than copy them to your NC using the USB cable. I assume that Hotspot Shield will also allow you to download library books, but I am not sure. |

I think that you should have some extra books on your NC just in case... If you are traveling with your work laptop, then you probably already have VPN software for remote connections to your office. I have not traveled overseas with my NC yet; however, I have traveled to multiple countries with my Sony ereaders. I was able to purchase ebooks just fine via VPN and then transfer them via USB cable to my ereader.
You might want to read this thread link below. It sounds like you will be able to use the Wi-fi on your NC to download any books that you have already purchased in the US that are in your archive. However, you will not be able to purchase any new books over Wi-fi on your NC. You will need to use your laptop & VPN software. Hope that helps! Have fun on your travels to Asia! https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=121121 |

Thanks for the info bookworm_girl.......yes I'll have the company internet, so accessibility shouldn't be an issue........and I do have plenty of BN freebies on my nook.........I'd hate to miss out on my library books I've got in the queue though....certainly a couple will become available while I'm out there......and I've only got 4 days after the library sends me an email about availability........
I'm hoping to be able to get those, before losing them......with a 20HR flight......I'll need some reading material, luckily, usually there's a power outlet........ |

I totally know what you mean. I have an international trip that keeps getting rescheduled so I have been hesitant to put any books on hold... 4 days to accept is more generous than my library.
