Hardware & Software Requirements for Calibre

Hello all!

Are there any specific hardware and software limits to run Calibre? I want to install it on a Dell Mini netbook with XP and 1GB ram. I wasn't sure if it would work on the system.

I have looked everywhere and can't find any guidelines on this. Thanks in advance for the info.

I think it will work, but in the time it took to look everywhere you could have installed it and got your answer first hand.

Give it a try and report back your experience for others that are also curious.

Good Luck.

A few users run calibre on Netbooks. Other than being slow to complete certain tasks (conversion) they haven't reported any issues.

Yeah, dwanthny, that's true. It is just that I have this habit of reading the instructions first. Gets me into trouble every time. Plus, I am a recovering Windows Vista user, LOL! Totally afraid that a failed install will brick my machine. I like your approach, though!

Thanks, user_none. I have learned not to expect speed from a netbook. That's why I thought it would be good for this - it is only used lightly because of that.

Thank you both for your quick response. I thought somehow I must have missed this information.

At the risk of being laughed at, I'm only working with 256 MB of RAM and Calibre seems to do just fine.

The reader feature is slow, though. When it comes to checking the outcome of conversions, I just open the containing folder and then use MobiPocket.

Silas, that is really good news. Puts that 1GB in perspective, for sure! Thanks!

Another thought, once installed to prevent book conversions from causing your machine to be unresponsive make sure you go to Preferences - behavior and change Job priority from Normal to Low.

Thanks! Will do. Just installed it and had no problems at all. Now to feed it some books and hook up the Literati....
