Oberon cover on my 650 (the 600 model)- SWEET!
Hi! Rarely post on here (don't have much to add to all the greatness), but this forum has been SO good to me and my obsession with researching EVERY LITTLE THING before I buy, so in case someone is looking for exactly this, here it is
![]() I scoured all over trying to find pics of people using Oberon 600 covers with their 650s, but could really only find....not much. I looked for ages on various boards, as I'm up in Canada, but was going to have it shipped to our cottage stateside, and billed to my father's Visa (tore mine up after Christmas lol!), and this that and the other...so I wanted to be sure about what I was buying. I initially thought I'd get the Kindle3 cover, so I'd have room for an e-luminator2 to slide down the middle inseam- I don't like clips on the top (like the mighty bright and such), wanted to have it always in the cover with the book. Plus I have two kids under 5 who'd LOVE to wander off with a light clipped on the top ![]() The girl I was emailing back and forth at Oberon (Amy?) was so helpful and tolerant, and I ended up just emailing them the Visa # and address, and dad just dropped it off on my doorstep today. Awesomeness ![]() Anyway- some pics. Bigger than the Sony cover my husband gave to me, but feels smaller- maybe because it isn't so flappy with the bungee closer. Such a nice leathery feel to it with the bumps and hollows. Colour- seems true to the web pic on their site. Durability- good thick covers, bends back nicely. I used to have an Astak pocket pro (?), and that faux leather cover was substantially nicer than the Sony 'leather' one, in that it had the magnetic closure. Why would Sony charge that much just to insert a light and knobbies to hold it in place when it just flaps away? Glad he got it for $30 instead of $50CAD. I'm rambling, forgive. My kitchen table is a honey pine colour, just left the white leaflet in to show against the green. And of course who doesn't like a lil' semi-naked screensaver. I actually have 7 pics set for the slideshow, never know who I'm going to open the cover too...Sawyer...Jason Statham...Christian Bale...lol ![]() Anyhoo... |

Awesome! Looks beautiful! I share your enthusiasm for Oberon. I am using the red hummingbird Kindle2 cover with my 950. And, I have the green paisley design for my NOOKcolor. They are great quality, and customer service was very good.

Very nice. There are some pictures of Oberon 600 covers for the 650 in this Cases thread.
It's too bad they don't advertise the Sony covers are still available. I agree their customer service is very good. |

I didn't realize they had Sonys in stock, but the small journal worked out fine for me.

@Seabookguy- yours is one of the threads that was most helpful for sizing, DIY and stuff, but I was just concerned the strap closure wouldn't be effective enough and it wouldn't have room on the inseam for a light?
@library addict- You are SO right! I feel like an idiot- saw that, and remember thinking "Hm, there won't be room for a light to fold down the inside...", now remembering that's why I was thinking of going for the kindle, I think it measured wider or taller- somehow roomier enough for a light to stay contained. Totally not a worry with the 650 Oberon model- there's room to fit a wide pencil down the inseam with the cover closed, so when I head to the cottage today (states), I'm going to pop into Target and BN to see if they've got a better selection than I can't find up here at our major booksellers. @bookworm- tried it in bed last night, love it! wow that could be taken the wrong way :/ @wordeater- you'll love it ![]() whew last- @mcrmama, hi! Love seeing Canadians on these types of boards, don't know why but it gives me the fuzzies lol! |

Got my Oberon cover today
You'd be hard pressed to believe the cover for the 600 wasn't made for the 650. Mine is great.
I spent an hour or so 'darkening' up the Saddle to a nicer 'medium' brown. (IMO) I was certain a cover in Chocolate would be too dark for my liking, so I went with Saddle knowing it would better lend itself to darkening it up a bit with the plan to match a leather daytimer I've owned for about 20 years. By comparison, I'd say that it now looks about the same 'tone' as the Wine coloured covers on Oberon's website, although clearly brown. (lighter than the chocolate covers) I regret now that I didn't take a 'before' picture, but I really like how it came out. When I was done I pulled out the daytimer and the two were almost identical. (I didn't reference the daytimer as a guide when I went to work on the saddle) I quit when I thought I had it about right. On the whole, the Oberon cover is a lot more supple than I was expecting it to be. No break-in required really. I have no doubt the protection offered by the Oberon is about as good as it gets. WE |
