				Database replacement questions.

I have the original kobo and was one of the early people to upgrade the firmware to 1.8.1. I never bothered to upgrade to 1.8.2 as I had no known problems. I side load all my books using calibre, except library books which go on via ADE. I do not use the kobo application at all. For the first time today I opened one of the 100 free books and it has the commonly reported error of repeating text every couple of pages. I can easily find another copy of course, but I'd like to fix it - I am almost certain this will involve a database replacement (am I right?) The instructions in the sticky for replacing the database are very clear, however, I have a couple of questions before I start: 1. Do I have to do a factory reset before and/or after I do the upgrade? 2. Will it be compatible with my calibre books, or does it blow those away as well? (obviously I would backup first anyway!) 3. Do I have to reinstall the upgrade (1.8.2)? Any other warning points or tips before I get onto this? It's my weekend job, although I'd rather be reading It's my first ever problem with my kobo so I've had a good run. Thanks in advance |

Can anyone help with this? I'm not keen to start until I know exactly what I'm doing.

The Factory Reset before and after the database replacement is probably not mandatory, but is a good idea (I did both). This should wipe out all the books loaded - it definitely clears the database and wipes books loaded via Kobo desktop. It seems inconsistent with sideloaded books (Calibre, ADE, drag & drop), so I removed everything before the first factory reset, then reloaded stuff after the DB replacement and factory reset. I did not need to do a firmware upgrade.
