PB360 file question
I've looked around but can't find out how the BP360 stores and fetches its books. A review site mentioned that a simple file/folder system was used. What I would like to know is:
Can I set up folders with genre names and store book files in them? If so, can I then go to a folder list, select a folder and then the book to read? Is there a restriction on the folder levels? Thanks and regards - John |

The 360 simply presents you all folders and subfolders present on either the internal memory or the SD card. If two folders by the same name are present on both its contents are merged. You can name your folders whatever your like. The underlying file system is FAT, so there may be some restrictions there (8 levels deep?). I might be imagining that, never ran into any practical issues myself.

Yes, the PB360 does use the file system to store ebooks.
If there is a limit to how deep you can nest your folders I've never heard of anybody finding it. Me, I've gone as far as 6 levels. You can use any folder organization system you choose to create; I've never heard of anybody running into issues with the folder names. Now, in *addition* to the file system-based bookself, the PB360 has a parallel ebook organization system found under FAVORITES. This uses shortcut links to physical files or folders to access ebooks. Favorites *also* lets you create arbitrarily-named folders of these links. Some folks use Favorite links for categories or collections both manually and through Calibre: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94697 Also, the PB bookshelf has full file-management capabilities: copy, delete, move, erase, rename. Basically, if you put some thought to how you want to set-up your storage system you can have quick fast access, done *your* way, to all your books through either or both options. |

Being the curious sort, I just powered up my PB360 and used the "Move to Folder" function to *create* a nested folder destination 12 levels deep and move a test file there. It worked.
I'm fairly certain there is no arbitrary limit on how deep you can go since it's a standard FAT32 file system and the PB360 is LINUX-based. Now, there *will* be a limit to the length of the resultant *path-name*. I'm not sure what the LINUX path-length limits are these days (256 characters? More? Less?) but I doubt that will impinge on a reasonable organization system. But if you really want to give full-sentence names to your folders you might run into a wall at some point. ![]() |

Thanks All,
I guess black or white is the only decision left to make. My wife likes the JetBook except the screen. She likes the Sony size and screen but hates the touch screen (me too). So the PB360 looks just right. Thanks again - John |
