Can I put Froyo on a rooted Nook?
Now that my CN has been upgraded to 1.1 I have been waiting for an Auto-Nooter to come out. But I recently saw somebody selling (on Craigslist) a rooted CN that claimed to have 2.2.1 loaded on it, which is what I would really want so I can install Flash.
So, can I do this, and how? I always thought I had to wait for the release of Froyo first, then root it. As an aside, this guy was looking for $400 for this ![]() -Jim |

![]() It is possible, but it is still "experimental" ... the Froyo is still getting tweaked ... if you haven't jumped in yet, I would suggest you wait ... in a few more days, I think there will be gingerbread (the dev's are just trying to eliminate a few bugs) .. I had some kernel crashes and some "sleep of death" issues. But Flash is great! especially with an overclocked kernel at 1.1ghz ... it runs really well BUT, if you want to know how - you can find out more at xda-developers or androidcentral - both forums have instructions ... the basic scenario is to install Clockwork recovery (you can use the rom manager app that you can download from the Market to install Clockwork); put the froyo rom on an SD card as a zip file; boot into the recovery (hold the N button down while powering on the Nook); make a backup of your current configuration onto the SD card, then tell clockwork to install the zip file from the SD Card. If you haven't played w/ Froyo yet, I would suggest you try the installation that installs to your SD card instead. It will be slower, but you will see what is functional etc.; then you can decide if you want to install it to your actual NC. It really isn't too difficult Last edited by jasoraso; 02-02-2011 at 04:48 PM. |

Thanks.
While looking into this I stumbled upon the Honeycomb image thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936995 I think I'm going to play with that first. I mean, would it not be best to just wait until the "official" 2.2 release from B&N and once that is out wait for the Auto-nooter for that and install it? In the meantime I can play with the Honeycomb SD image. Does that make sense? |

Well, Honycomb is exciting and fun to play with.
But, that being said, I would still like to root my 1.1 CN. My question is, when 2.2 comes out with Flash support and the respective auto-nooter for it, what do I have to do to get that on there? |

Assuming you're rooted with autonooter for 1.1.0, you would return to stock, update, and re-root with the appropriate autonooter.

That was what I thought. All I would lose would be any apps I installed, correct?

If you use the pre-root method volwrath refers to, all your apps should remain. Last edited by SCION; 02-03-2011 at 12:44 PM. |
