Yes, good book. I just finished it after taking it out from the Phili free library. I think the ending wrapped up much too quickly and was simplified, however. The suspense was really built up, but it had a dissatisfying ending for me.

Did you get the full book of short stories or just one short story? I just bought it and it was one short story only even though the description sais it was a book of short stories. I sent an email to customer service and requested a refund or the full book as advertised. We'll see how that goes.

yeah, but the description says 304 pages and the cover shown is the same as the full book. I added it to calibre and it had the cover that said it was one short story. The Barnes & Noble Desktop Reader has the cover shown on the website.

I requested a refund and got one - maybe you should try too. It was false advertising - the cover and book description were not for the book you downloaded and paid for.

Also, did anyone notice that the paperback is selling for $2.99?!? The full ebook definitely should not be selling for $7.99.

I'm glad you got your refund, Purple Lady, and thanks for letting us know. I think I will keep mine, as I haven't read any of Lippman's short stories before, so that will help me decide if I want to get the book later if it goes down in price again.

Another good reason to always get a sample before buying. I normally do that but was in a hurry that day so I didn't.

No problem, sufue! It is the buyer's responsibility to know what she is buying.

no need to apologize - I looked at it before I bought it. The table of contents link shows all stories and if you click on Read a Sample Chapter it gives you Chapter One The Crack Cocaine Diet. B&N is the one who screwed up.

I meant you need to actually download the sample. Reading it at the website still shows just what is at the website. Looking at them now, neither one has a download sample option, so I am wondering if they are in the process of redoing these, or maybe they never did have that option for these books but they do on her others; I didn't notice when I bought it.

I'm not saying it should be that way or that B&N isn't at fault, just a general tip to protect us and save ourselves hassle by knowing what we are getting up front.

I usually download the samples anyway to see if I like the writing and how the formatting looks, typos, etc.

Hardly Knew Her, by Laura Lippman, is now 99 cents in the US Kindle store. This is the full edition, not the single short story that was in the B&N store. I got this a while back (last time it was this price) and checked my copy - 4,323 locations and the TOC references four parts and numerous contained stories.
