Some unanswered post root questions.
If I root my NC:
1 Will the B&N interface be gone? 2 If it is, do I need to install the nook app (like on my droid) to buy books? 3 When I install apps, where do they go? My Droid has the app library, will something similar show up? 4 There is no hardware back button, how do apps deal with this? 5 Will books still sync with the store so I can pick up reading them on my phone? 6 If I don't like it and do the "8 times" startup thing, am I then back to what I had when I bought the device? At this point I am kind of waiting for Froyo to see what that is like first, is there any place to track when that will get pushed out? I guess I am sort of looking for a comparison between the NC rooted and my (already) rooted Droid so I can see what to expect. Thanks, Jim |

Thank you for the quick reply. I think rooting might be the way to go. Tell me, can you put the regular gmail app on the NC? It comes with my phone, so I have never had to go look for it. I use Touchdown for corporate (exchange) mail, so I can probably install that. The only other apps that really interest me off the top of my head is the calendar and a full contacts list.
How exactly are the apps installed and can I install them to the SD card? -Jim |

The Gmail app is automatically installed when you root. It's not available in the Market. The apps are installed via Market or you can sideload them. The NC has Android 2.1 and there's no option to install apps to SD card. App data is placed on the storage card.

Oh, I see, so if I understand you correctly, after I root I will have a gmail icon and a market icon in my "extras" folder and can install things via the market. Nice.
I have Barnacle (makes it a hot spot) on my phone. But it uses ad-hoc, will I be able to get that to work after rooting? Right now my CN does not see the Barnacle AP when I run it. This would officially be the balls... ' -Jim |

I believe the consensus is that it works when using Infrastructure Mode. Perhaps someone will chime in.

Great. One more (hopefully last) question. Where do I turn off auto update?

To those who haven't yet rooted, it sounds complicated but when you get in and start doing stuff, it all starts making sense. Believe me! And with all the helpful people here, you will not go wrong!

Well, I was all set to root this weekend, and last night I got 1.1. Anyway, will I have to wait for another autonooter to do it?

Possibly. It may be possible to reload 1.0.1 on top of 1.1.0. I havent heard of anyone trying that
