Has anyone installed the NYT app?
I'm waiting for my card reader and card to show up so I can join the root club. In the meantime, I was wondering if anyone has had luck installing the NYT android app for tablets. Thanks!

Is this a free app, or must you subscribe to NYT Online?

Yes. It's one of the reasons I wanted to root.
It's free, it works fairly well and it'll up date all the contents with one menu selection for off-line reading. You can find it easily at the Android Market. I wouldn't have subscribed anyway, but a one year on-line NYT subscription costs more than the color nook! Enjoy! |

Thanks, this is a great value. You're right, almost makes it worth rooting right there. Personally, I prefer WSJ or others but I have a couple professors who cite NYT articles often and it is nice to have the articles handy to better follow along. Was going to try Calibre for free newspapers, but will probably hold off on that now.

I think I read something about it being free through the early part of 2011. I suspect it will become fee-based thereafter.

You can always read it off the website if you're wifi connected, but it's a little bit of a nuisance. |

The description of the NYT app from the market indicated that it was free until sometime in 2011.

OK, is it me, or is it impossible to use this app in landscape mode? I can't seem to find a way to get any controls to come up in landscape. So I can finish reading an article but I have to go back to portrait mode in order to get to another article.

You have button savior or softkeys installed, yes? They give you access to back and menu buttons whenever any app is fullscreen (any orientation).
