Hello, my name is Dan and I go be the name smwoodcrafts. I am a new Kindle owner. Still a little confused about all of this. Not understanding how publishers and sleep at night charging the same price, and sometimes more, for an ebook than they do for a physical book when there is absolutely no overhead or cost to them.

What makes you think publishers sleep.

I think the real idea is to make Kindle, Nook, etc... less appealing so that we're more likely to buy the old fashioned books that publishers make most of their money on. I don't think they've adapted their business models yet to understand how to capitalize on the ebook market.

Welcome to MR! I get your frustration about some ebook prices, but publishers don't exactly want ebooks to succeed. They'll lose power over the author if ebooks become the standard.

Good to have your company, Dan. Quite often that price anomaly is down to retail discounting hardback and paperback. My feeling is that those retail loss-leaders are maybe meant as pay-back to those (larger) publishers who adopted a thing called the Agency Five model for digital sales, which retail detests because it denies them the right to discount ebooks.
