I have corrupted my office admin!

Our admin at work got a Sony for Christmas and I helped her get set up with some free books, a Calibre download and some written instructions on how to get library books and how to set up a Kobo account since the Sony store is a wasteland for the non-American. She gifted me, to my surprise and delight, with a Kobo gift card to thank me!

So today, I saw her at work after the weekend and the first thing I did was thank her for the lovely gift card---and confess that I had already spent it! So then we have the following conversation:

Her: You did? Great! Wait, already?
Me: Well, I keep a wish list, and then when I get promo codes...
Her: What's a promo code?

So I explain about Kobo and the promo codes, and she runs over to her computer and opens up her inbox. She asks me to come and look at this email that the Kobo people sent her five minutes after she signed up. It was a 'thank you for signing up' promo code. She used it to buy the Stieg Larssen book and assumed that was that.

Oh no, I explain. The Kobo people ALWAYS have a promo code. Just wishlist the books when you want them and wait for the promo code, and voila! I could see the wheels turning in her head.

That's one for our side! She's hooked now...

Yes, introducing eReading to people who love books is sort of like putting catnip in front of my cat Blue.

Okay, I want in on this. Does Kobo send you promo codes based on what is on your wish list, or are these just generic promo codes that you Google up?

Please delete that nasty picture of a creepy cat. That's just nasty. Please get rid of it.

I made him smaller so as not to offend your delicate sensibilities, Jon. He is not, btw, creepy. He is a very sweet old boy who had his picture taken at the vet's office when he was being treated against his will. Note the pink bandage on his leg. He found it humiliating.

Actually, that cat no matter the size derails the thread. And it's still creepy no matter the size.

I did the exact same thing with my boss, only she bought a Kobo Wi-Fi. She's completely hooked!

We have a book club going at work, and almost all of us are now reading electronically. One of the most interesting things for me to see was how many folks bought a reader before going on holiday so they wouldn't have to haul books around with them, and then got well and truly hooked.

This reminds me of when I first found FictionWise. It took me a while to believe that it was really true. Those were the days...
