Kindle Address Book
Does anybody know of a decent Address Book app for the Kindle 3?
I'd like to be able to log: 1) Address 2) Phone Number 3) eMail address 4) A short note for each entry Am I dreaming? Would it even be possible? (I don't code; I don't know! I'm asking!) TIA if you can give me any help! ![]() |

I was wondering about this myself. Looking on Amazon for apps the closest I see are 'apps' that are really documents that allow you to add Notes. It probably works, but doesn't look very easy to use, and isn't a real 'app'.
It seems that without an app the best alternative is to just load a file on your Kindle that contains all the information you want, and to update it using your PC - even exporting from existing contacts/address book apps. One way is to create a .txt or html file (or even mobi) and then email it to your Kindle each time you make an update - but this will mean you need to delete the old copy since Kindle can't tell its the same document. Alternatively once you connect the Kindle you could navigate to the Kindle's directory and edit it yourself. # But it might be easiest just to create the document then import it into Calibre, then use Calibre to send the file to your device - it gives you a backup on your PC, but also means you need to edit the copy that Calibre imported into its directory instead of the original file. And if you need to add new entries directly on the Kindle you can add a note and then update the original document later. Online text editors are another way to go if you're always connected but I haven't tried them outside of a quick test with google docs mobile. |

Thanks for the reply...
Yes, this is pretty much what I've been thinking of doing. It seems like such a PITA though. I'm surprised there aren't some better apps on Amazon. (There are a couple, but they get horrible reviews.) What really surprises me is that Amazon doesn't have something like this built into the Kindle. They could stick it in the "Expermental" folder if they don't want to support it. (It would be more useful than their stupid MP3 player, in which you can't even control the order the songs play in. Ok, so you have minimal control, but still...) |

At the moment, there is no Active Content to do so. I recommend that you use the Kindle Counter (1 to 10,000)
It has a bunch of pages, each page counting up by one number. On each page, you can store your notes as an annotation. As a plus, you can search your annotations on your Kindle! The advantage of buying this book instead of just loading your own text file is that your annotations will sync and backup. |

Thanks! This looks interesting...
Say you have a listing on "page 1" and "page 2," can you insert a page between "page 1" and "page 2?" (So that "page 2" becomes "page 3," when you create a new "page 2.") And, thus, keep your address book in alphabetical order? Also, can you edit pages on your computer, and load them into your Kindle? EDIT: I just ordered the free sample. Looks like it's worth checking out. Last edited by MickeyMark; 01-18-2011 at 11:28 PM. |

You can access the pages online from the Amazon Kindle site. |

I don't know about the UK, but I downloaded it in the US and it's quite good. Very handy.
7 Dragons also puts out a good Notebook and Calendar. |
