Feature request: Import Folder with Subfolder and Categories them as such
Feature request: Import Folder with Subfolder and Categorize them as such
Is calibre capable of importing a directory with sub directory and categorizing the supported files in those directory in the location they are in? i work for a public school that has this prototype project to digitize all classroom works and homeworks. my school purchase a product already to scan and convert files to pdf. now the challenge is how to maintain all the individual student's files and show them in a browser. administrators are interested in doing the same with all the students in 23 school in the district. i am the person in charge for scanning class works. we have over 1200 students for 32 classes. yes that is a lot of folder to manage. scanning 32 group/class is not a problem. it's the separating them into individual folders and dumping them into its own folder THEN making them available for network sharing is the problem. in a way calibre already solved part of the problem. sharing them in the network for web browsing. we need this sharing feature for parents to see their child's work. Request now is: Can calibre import a MAIN folder, List the name of subfolder (grade/teacher), use student name as sub categorie folder.. then list the pdf files inside \Main Folder -->04Williams (Grade/Teacher-GROUP) ----->0135 Smith, Lawrence (Student Number, Student Name-AUTHOR) ---------->First PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Second PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Third PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Etcetera PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ----->0244 Collins, Debra (Student Number, Student Name-AUTHOR) ---------->First PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Second PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Third PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Etcetera PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ----->8466 Upton, Gregory (Student Number, Student Name-AUTHOR) ---------->First PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Second PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Third PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Etcetera PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ----->6355 Knittle, Kathy (Student Number, Student Name-AUTHOR) ---------->First PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Second PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Third PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Etcetera PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ----->1234 Moore, Etc (Student Number, Student Name-AUTHOR) ---------->First PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Second PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Third PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) ---------->Etcetera PDF file.pdf (file inside the folder) COMMON APPLICATION \Main Collection -->Database Programming ----->ABC Publishing ---------->First PDF file.pdf ---------->CHM file.pdf ---------->EPUB file.pdf ---------->Etcetera file.pdf ----->Kidlat Publishing ---------->First PDF file.pdf ---------->CHM file.pdf ---------->EPUB file.pdf ---------->Etcetera file.pdf ----->Buko Publishing ---------->First PDF file.pdf ---------->CHM file.pdf ---------->EPUB file.pdf ---------->Etcetera file.pdf ----->Sams Publishing ---------->First PDF file.pdf ---------->CHM file.pdf ---------->EPUB file.pdf ---------->Etcetera file.pdf ----->XZY Publishing ---------->First PDF file.pdf ---------->CHM file.pdf ---------->EPUB file.pdf ---------->Etcetera file.pdf Last edited by c4rp3d13m; 01-10-2011 at 02:24 PM. no calibre can read metadata from filenames, but not from folder structures. If you can have the metadata in the filenames or in the files themselves, then calibre can import it for you.
