Looks like Kobo has done a distribution deal with Future Shop and Best Buy (sister companies in Canada). Both the black and porcelain original Kobo ereaders are widely available for $79.99 (including free shipping or in-store purchase). At the price, it's a very nice unit and ideal for the person looking for a basic reader and access to public library ebooks.

They are also selling the current wifi model, in all three colours, for the standard price of $149.99. Relative to the Sony models, that's still a pretty decent price (the PRS-650 is $229.99).

Check again: Best Buy has stock of the porcelain units; and Future Shop has stock in select stores. It looks like they will keep this SKU live and replenish as stock becomes available.

Again, at $79.99, it's a terrific price for someone wanting a basic reader that provides full public library access (or as a second unit in the house to share simultaneous copies on).

Bestbuy is selling it at $69.99 now. It is sold out but the site says it can take 105 backorders. I ordered one on that basis and the order went through without a problem.

Depending on where you're located it might be worth the drive to go to the US. Borders is selling the Kobo Wifi brand new for $99.99 US. The US dollar is a really good buy right now and if you're not far from the border.....I'd want a new one and not a refurb for a difference of $30 and you get Wifi too.

The $99.99 price is a new low price not a sale price by the way.
