Those who use more than one ereader...
How do you split the usage between your readers? Is it geographical (one when traveling, another when at home), functional (one for easy text documents, another for pdf's), emotional (driven by mood)... or other?

In my case (three ereader), it depends on the travel I'm going to do and mood.

Since I hate big purses, I just have my iPod touch when I go out (I have no problem reading books on it). The Kindle stays at home or I take it with me when travelling.
*Ever since I discovered that it's possible to sync non-Amazon mobi books, I've been converting all ePubs to mobi to take advantage of this Kindle "feature". |

Basically it comes down to functional for me what each is 'best' for or setup for.
I'm still using my PDA for .lit books I have/had and my IQ for everything else, all things being equal the PDA would be my choice for traveling and reading but that is rarely an option for me. I plan to migrate more or less everything over to my IQ as I was never really organized on the PDA and the IQ has more of a 'future' with other reading programs and support. |

For me it is a mood and/or functional question. Sometimes purely one or the other, sometimes a combination.
My Sony has a few features that my Kobo does not that make reading certain kinds of books somewhat easier (like following footnotes!). On the other hand my Kobo has a larger screen, a more comfortable feel in my hands, and is generally better for long periods of good old fashioned marathon reads. The Sony is very business/metallic looking and the interface reminds you that you are most certainly using a device to read; the Kobo is thin, pretty, and soft with more area for your hands to hold on to and an interface that makes you forget you are using a device at all. And on and on and on. Just depends: but I end up using my Kobo for well on 90% of all of my ebook reading. |

Functional split between iPad and iPod Touch.
I use the Touch on packed subways when spending months in Asia, for instance. I can wrap my hand around the Touch, not worry about having it accidentally knocked down. I also can easily turn pages and turn off the Touch with one hand. For all else, I use my iPad. I carry it pretty much everywhere, in my bag. I still buy print books as well, but I leave 'em at home. I used a Kindle for 15 months away from home, before iPad emerged. |

I have a Sony and a Kindle, so for the most part it depends on which format the ebook is in - epub or mobi. If I got the book directly from amazon then obviously the Kindle. I also have an iTouch but I don't like to read full novels on it so I usually save that for short story or novella size books. If I have an ebook in both epub and mobi then my preference at the moment (which I admit reluctantly) is the Kindle as it has some features I prefer while reading, especially if its a book for review.

Location. My primary reader is my iPad, I read on my iPhone when I'm somewhere that it's impractical to carry the iPad (i.e. standing in line, etc...) and I use my Sony PRS-505 when I'm backpacking.

For me it comes down to backlit or e-ink, with the portability of each device factored in. My first choice is usually the backlit screen, but there are a lot of times when for any of several reasons I prefer my Kindle. I use the 7" tablet mostly at night when I'm settled in somewhere comfortable (and close to a power source in case I forget to charge it), and the Kindle if I'm out in the sun or away from home.

My favorite is the Kindle 3 with the lighted case and that is what I do most of my reading on.
The Sony pocket is more compact and fits nicely into my purse so sometimes I load a couple of books on travel with it during the day - like when I had to take a kid up to college orientation etc. The iPhone is emergency - I got stuck somewhere I wasn't planning on so I might as well read. I hardly ever use the iPADs, those are mostly DH and the kids. |

Right now my readers are a Kindle 3 and a netbook. The netbook is for library books and graphic novels. The Kindle is for pretty much everything else. The netbook usually stays home due to its 2.5 pound weight.

I have a nook I use when reading around the house and when I remember to bring it with me when I leave the house.
I have an iPad I use when the nook isn't available for whatever reason. I tend to have the iPad out of the house more often. I also use the iPad for reading when I'm the passenger on a long car trip when the light starts to get too low. I also use my iPhone sometimes when I want to read a quick chapter or two during breaks or when I happen to leave both other devices behind. I do want a smaller 4-5 inch e-ink reader that I can stash in my pocket all the time (I wear cargo pants, I have big pockets), but I haven't found anything I REALLY like yet. |

Depends on mood and location. My K3 is my main reader. Especially now that I can have library books on it. My Nook Color sees plenty of use though. I have several magazines on there, some nonfiction books and some novels. I'll take the NC with me if I think I'll need to read in low light. Or if I'm in the mood for light reading and using the bells and whistles on the NC.

Over the last few weeks I have transitioned (entirely!) to my Sony PRS-350 as my primary reading machine. My opinion above is now no longer true.
I have given the Kobo to my wife and she is giddy with bouncy happiness. |
