SD card size question
I have a 16g SD card but when I hook my NC up to m computer and try to open it only shows 39meg of space. What's up with that? My device shows separately and shows 5g.

Most PCs will have trouble formating it correctly. Use your Nook to format it (From the center home button: Settings, Device Info, SD Card, Unmount SD card, Format SD card). On Windows you can use the command line tool 'diskpart' to do it (via the clean command) but that tool is extremely dangerous (no protection against wiping the wrong disk so you have to be 100% sure you are doing it right). Use the Nook. |

No, you won't lose your root if you remove the card, or reformat it. I used a dinky 2gb card to root, then replaced it with a 32gb card. All still good.

It's usually a good recommendation to do this format, in the NC, immediately after the first successful bootup into the rooted system. You'll know the root was successful upon it's first boot, when you see the nook color devs android icon in the lower right corner of the animated "Nook Color" boot screen.
I've found that if I fail to do this immediately after the first bootup, that I inevitably forget to remove the card from the NC, and upon any successive bootups, the NC will attempt to root yet again from the micro-SD card rooting data. If you're like me on my first root, you thought something was wrong on the second bootup, and pulled out the micro-SD card when the screen was black, right in the middle of a re-root, which yields bad things. |

All tablets that I've seen so far have the OS (Android) installed on internal flash of some sort, so formatting the SD card doesn't do a thing to the OS. i.e. OOB they boot w/o any cards(excepting Pandigital Novel(white) which has an internal uSD slot and card, but OS is still residing on some flash on the device's motherboard) installed...

If you don't want to use your NC to format it, Google "SD Formatter", a free PC software that will format the SD card back to it's proper size.

Can you tell me a quick and easy way to sync the calendar? is it doing it in the background? if so what settings can I change to manually sync everything? I'm just learning the root system, it looks like I have an upgraded root with changes. can you tell me if there are any auto settings I need to turn off to save on the battery? |

You can also force sync if you have the Synker widget. As far as saving battery, you can keep your screen dimmed as low as you comfortably can. Other than that, there may be some specific app settings you can adjust in regard to feed updates, etc. Some have renamed a couple of phone .apk files with hope of prolonging battery life. I haven't done so. Last edited by SCION; 01-12-2011 at 03:19 PM. |

Yes, the options within each app. "It is freezing up"... you just rooted, did you install any other apps? It shouldn't be trying to sync anything on its own, unless you installed something that would try to sync. But that shouldn't cause it to freeze. The app just would not be able to sync. People turn off wifi all of the time or are simply not connected to a network. What are you doing when it freezes up? Last edited by SCION; 01-12-2011 at 03:36 PM. Reason: typo |
