fonts sometimes thin

Hallo,

after using my new PRS-650 for about one month, I recently observed the following phenomenon: If I turn over to the next page, sometimes the fonts are "thin". If I turn back and over again, then the fonts are ok. The same behaviour I noticed in the past on my Iriver Story after using it for some time. Is that a normal property of e-ink-technology?

Thanks for advice!

I have noted the same thing when I go back reading and the reader is the sleeping mode, showing a standby image. This occours only with the first page.
If I go forward and back again to the same page the fonts look OK.

I've had the same as giododa. The first screen after turning on my reader out of stand by mode is often fainter. But once I turn the page, it's fine.

The last two posts describe my problem. But I also observed that sometimes (but seldom) the phenomenon happens if I turn over to the next page during "normal reading" and not returning from the sleeping mode.

I have seen what you described while reading but not frequently. Also sometimes the text can vary light and dark within a page, especially after using the dictionary. There have been a few other posts on this topic. No solutions except to turn the page a few times.

I think this is not uncommon to eInk screens. I've owned eInk readers from Sony and Amazon and they all occasionally had and/or have this happen. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes frequent. It is such a common thing that the Kindles have a screen refresh shortcut built in so you don't have to page forward the page backward. But with the newer readers like the 650 the speed of paging is fast and it is no longer an issue to do the page forward then page backward refresh.

What Jack wrotes, implies that this phenomen is probably a normale side effect of e-ink-technology. So we have to turn the page to neutralize this effect. ;-)

On a 350, I experience the same, in both landscape and portrait mode. It is probably some kind of anti-aliasing post-processing that was skipped during mode switch coming back from sleep. It sort of reminds me that back in the PRS-500 days, when the black text starts to fade after 20 minutes or so if left alone.
