I have downloaded a number of books on my pc and added it to calibre. Once the books have been downloaded to calibre, can I delete the books on hard drive on the pc? I just don't want to delete what is on the hard drive and discover it won't be on calibre anymore. Does it depend on the extension of the book like epub or mobi or pdf? I really like the way it organizes all the books and saves space.

You probably need to look at where you have set up your Calibre library. Are you using a Mac or Windows? If you use Windows go into the file Explorer and see if you have the downloaded books in "My Downloads" and another directory where Calibre stores its library. If there is a separate Calibre directory and duplicate copies of all the books you can delete the ones in My Downloads. If this is too technical do you have someone who could look at this on your computer?

Welcome to MR. I have a mac, and I notice that if I delete the books from my download folder before I save it somewhere else, I've lost it. On my computer, calibre makes a folder that is on my computer where it stores the books, then I can delete from downloads. All my saved files on my computer are on my hard drive, so I'm not sure why you'd want to delete from the hard drive... I just delete from certain folders. (I'm not known for being super tech-savvy, so perhaps I don't know what I'm talking about, but welcome anyway!

![]() Welcome to mobileread.... Don't worry too much, ebooks are generally 'small' files and shouldn't fill up a HDD too quickly....[fer most folks] |

Hi! I'm new as well. I've only used Calibre for a couple of months, but it seems to make a copy of the ebook file and place it it its own directory system. I still keep the copy on my external hard drive as a backup. The files are not that large, usually.
