Fastest Way to Put Reader Library on New PC?

Hello all!

I was wondering what's the fastest way to put a library, collections and all, onto a new computer? I'm going from a laptop to a new desktop. I have all my files on the new computer but other than manually, how do I get all the books in their various collections in the Reader Library?

Is there a way to backup the collections and install it on the new computer?

Thanks!

Hi, Shopaholic. There is not an easy way to rebuild collections on a new computer as far as I know. You have asked a very good question. I would like to know if it is possible too. Perhaps there is some buried application settings file that you can copy over from the old to the new computer? You might have to contact Sony support to ask them this question.

Hi Bookworm! Thanks for responding. I'll try to call them later today but in the meantime I brought the laptop next to the new desktop and just did it one at a time. PITA though for sure!

I only have a few hundred books. It'd be a nightmare with a few thousand books. Yikes!

I sure sympathize with you! At least it's exciting to have a new computer. I had to reinstall Reader Library on my computer a few weeks ago, and now I am slowly rebuilding my library too. I have about 700 books to reload and recreate collections. I am nearly finished but definitely a pain! That's why I was hoping somebody would have a brilliant and easy answer for you.

Yep, new computers are very exciting. Especially when it's by choice rather than necessity. LOL The last few times I've gotten new ones are because its predecssor died an untimely death.

It's infinitely easier to just walk across the room to make changes to the new one while having the old one to refer to. My laptop's issue was just that it was running out of memory and it was getting bogged down. Other than that it's perfect. It was a 17" screen but only 250 gb of memory. Now they're selling laptops with 500gb.

The desktop has a 23" screen and 1tb of memory. I'm good for a few years.

I have a lot of music & audiobooks & podcasts. My goshdarn iTunes alone was around 200gb. Holy smokes!! :O I could only use my iTunes with the external harddrive which are great to have for backups. I'll keep you posted with what I find out from Sony.

Happy New Year!!

1tb?! Wow! Yep, I have to use an external hard-drive too for my iTunes content.

Happy New Year to you as well!
