nook & nook color forums
I still think there needs to be 2 separate forums. Even with the NC threads flagged the nook classic threads are getting buried and not all are flagged. A suggestion might be to have a main forum for both then separate child forums for each of the units. It's just getting harder and harder to find the threads pertaining to the classic nook.

I agree 100%. Especially with the huge takeup for NOOKcolours, it is going to get even worse. They are essentially two different beasts, so why put them into the same forum, like the Kindles?

I look at it this way, if a device uses a different OS, then it should have a separate forum. Whereas an upgrade for one Sony or Kindle applies to all of the models in their respective lineups, the same can't be said for the Nooks.
Nook upgrades only apply to Nooks and Nook Color upgrades only apply to Nook Colors. You can't interchange the two. That warrants separate forums. |

I started a poll here and right now it's showing over 85% would like some separation in the Barns & Noble nook forum. The classic nook threads are getting buried under all the nook color threads. Then there are the threads about rooting the different nooks.

I voted to separate the NC from the nook. They are different enough devices to warrant being separated.

The problem is that once that NookColor is rooted (so easy to do) it is just another android tablet. And a forum for Android tablets is a very different beast than a forum for a (mostly) dedicated eInk reader. It becomes a forum for internet applications, for questions about how to setup email, samba servers, etc.
I own both the eInk Nook (nonrooted) and a NookColor (rooted). Without a way to filter out the rooted/NookColor posts, the forum has become nearly completely useless for those using Nooks as shipped, as nearly dedicated ereaders. I go now to the official BN forums for regular Nook info. Way too hard to find it here -- regular Nook threads are quickly pushed to subsequent forum pages and queries can easily go unanswered. Why bother trying. I'd like to see MobileRead support e-readers first. It can still provide what has become a very fine android tablet forum, but this shouldn't be at the expense of those interested in the Nook as an e-reader. |

Please have separate sub-forums for the NOOK and NOOKcolor. A separate sub-forum for rooted devices (NOOK and NOOKcolor) would be nice.

There is now a new Nook Developer's Corner (Hacking and development of software for the Nook and Nook Color). We are in the process of moving threads to the new area. |

![]() Now can we get the Nook and Nook Color separated out as well? Even in the Nook Developer's Corner? The two devices are really very different beasts. And it's still really difficult to find Nook (not-Color) posts in amongst all the NC posts... Xenophon (give 'em an inch, and they want a mile...) |

Both the regular nook forum and the dev corner have a section above the threads where you may choose a prefix to separate for threads you wish to view.
Most of the threads in the dev corner have had prefixes applied to the threads. The regular forum is not complete yet. Now, that there are the two prefixes to choose, when starting a thread, we are hopeful members will begin to use them. Thank you for your patience while everyone becomes accustomed to the new section and the prefix choices. |

Perhaps a sticky is needed from a moderator (that stays at the top). Something like "Please read before posting", which instructs people to use the prefixes and directs them to the rooting sub-forum.
It's not really intuitive to those new to the forum that they should be posting questions pertaining to rooting in the rooting sub-forum. Going forward I can see rooting discussions still taking place in the general forum, though it will have the proper prefix. Just a thought. |
