Mmmm, how do I know if I have a 3G Nook?
O.k., I may not be the brightest bulb in the box. But I'm not totally burnt out either
![]() I bought a refurb wifi Nook from B&N for my sister for Christmas for $99. They emailed to apologize because the Nook we ordered was sold out. They would be sending us a wifi/3G instead! Very nice. I charged the battery and played with the Nook briefly before wrapping the gift. The wifi worked great. But I saw no indication of 3G. The shipping document says: Cert Pre-Owned NOOK 3G (290503376703) So, how do you know if your Nook is 3G? Is it printed on the case? Are there menu options? I saw wifi menu options but nothing for 3G. Just wondering. thanks, John |

Don't have the original nook but I'm guessing there should be a 3G icon somewhere, maybe next to the wireless icon?
If not, you can try disabling wifi and see if it connects to the web using 3G. |

The second page of the Settings:Summary on my 3G lists the IMEI (Int'l Mobile Equipment ID) of the 3G modem. I assume that a Wi-Fi-only unit won't list have that listed.

The back cover will be gray instead of white.
The "Wi-Fi" settings menu will have a "Wi-Fi" option below the "Airplane Mode" option. The Settings page is two pages long. |

You just turn the wifi off in your wifi settings and it will automatically search for a 3G signal. You should also see the tell tale "bars" up top next to the battery indicator.
