950 - library book trouble

I just got this for Christmas and I am so overwhelmed by something that should be so simple. There is no direction with anything.

I want to rent library books, and I can get them onto my PC and into both Adobe Digital Edition and Calibre, but cannot get them onto the 950.

With Calibre it just gives me an error message saying it isn't the right format, and when I saw convert it, it says it can't.

With ADE it shows it, but there isn't a button/link/or right click way to upload the book to the 950.

I am lost and tired of spending hours trying to figure this out.

HELP PLEASE!!!

Welcome to the site, Katie. Threre is nothing so frustrating as not being able to get something to work, when you know it should. We've all been there!

With ADE open, try dragging and dropping the books directly to where it says "reader" in the left column. The books should show as being on your device within a minute or two (you should see rotating arrows while they load I believe).

Have you installed Sony Reader Library software? Have you authorized your 950 to an Adobe account? You need to do that first. Then download the book from the library. It will be an acsm file. Right click the file and select open with Reader Library. It will open the book in the Sony software and then you can transfer the book to your 950 within the Sony software. That's how I do it. Just another method if you can't get it to work as SeaBookGuy suggested.

Yes I installed the Reader software as well, but nothing happened.

I also authorized but there is no "reader" button/section/word on the left. How do you get it to appear?

With your Sony not connected, open ADE and then plug in the device. It should appear shortly thereafter in the list on the left as an option.

Just a thought. Make sure the 950 is turned on when you connect via USB. If it is off, then the computer won't see it. Sometimes that step trips people up.

It's on, but it just says Charging complete, I can't use it.

none of the suggestions are working, I appreciate the help. I just feel so frustrated.

I know how frustrating it can be. I feel for you. Just had another thought. There have been a few postings where people have not been able to get their Windows 7 computers to recognize their 950. Both these people were able to get other computers to recognize their 950. In one case their computer could see their 350 but not their 950. I wonder if maybe you have this issue and that's why nothing has worked? Unfortunately nobody has figured out how to solve that problem other than use a different computer.

I thought the Sony's have to be turned off when you connect them to the USB port? If it's off and I connect it to the USB port, then start up Adobe Digital Editions, my PRS-350 shows up on the left side of the ADE screen under "Bookshelves".

Sounds as-if your 950 is authorized to one Adobe ID and your computer is authorized to another Adobe ID. Is it possible you have more than one Adobe account?

I'm pretty sure mine is always on when I plug it in. It might be in sleep mode but not powered off.

yes it is possible. how do i reset them or change them?
