B&N Sucks!

I dont believe this! I have a shiny new nook color freshly delivered to me by Mr UPS Man... I take it out, turn it on, and notice 2 small chips on the glass under the digitizer, and drive on over to the local B&N store to exchange it...

Those a-holes will not take it back because I bought it online and I need to call tech support to arrange for a replacement

One is coming my way but will not be here till mid next week at the earliest Merry F-ing xmass B&N! That is the last time I walk into your store!

On the plus side the nook color is pretty bad ass

Oh, even if you bought it in the brick and mortar store you have to go the 1-800 route for a replacement. My 10 month old nook developed the notorious bezel crack - took it to the store where I'd bought it - no go. I guess they don't want to waste a new one when a refurb will do.

Big change from last Summer when the 1-800 tech people were sending everyone to the store. They must have figured out that processing returns in a single location is cheaper.

My nook developed a bezel crack. Called the 800 number. Before I hung up I had already received three emails. One was instructions on sending the unit back. The other was a prepaid UPS label. The third was a notification that the unit would ship Monday (this was Sunday). They shipped the new nook as promised and gave me 14 days to return the cracked one so I was never without a nook. When I received the replacement, it was "Certified Pre-owned" meaning refurbished, but it was as flawless as a new one in appearance and operation. It works fine.

How can anyone fault that kind of customer service?

I get most of my electronics from them, including my Sony Readers and my NC. They are really nice to work with and will take returns and make exchanges without a hassle. Their sales staff leaves a lot to be desired, but the customer service dept is really good.

@rcuadro, Sony was awful in the way they treated me over my 950. I had what I thought was a problem and called CS. As soon as they found out that I bought it from Best Buy they wouldn't talk to me anymore and insisted I take it back to Best Buy. Fortunately I was able to fix the problem through research on this site. It is indeed aggrevating when you get mistreated by a company and you have bought thousands of dollars worth of their products over the years.

Anyone considering buying a Nook should know that only unopened Nooks are returnable to a B&N store .

"Returning nook

You can return nook within 14 days of receipt. Either call 1-800-THE-BOOK (843-2665) for a return authorization, or return it to a Barnes & Noble store."

Items must be returned in their original condition; shrink-wrapped products must be unopened."

Yes, Bestbuy does have an excellent return policy, but you can get up to 15% off if you buy direct from B&N via a cashback site combined with the Amex Open Savings rebate.

Here's why you have to send it to them:

The website and stores are run separately. If the website sent you defective or the wrong merchandise, 99% of the time we have to refer you back to them to fix their own mistakes. If the store orders it, they replace it. Minor issues can usually be handled in the store, but in this case it was a broken NC and that has to be handled by the site and nook CS.

They weren't a-holes for not taking it back right away. One way or another that unit would be sent back as damaged. You bought it online rather than in a store, and therefore that's how you handle the return. If this was any other site that didn't have a physical store presence, you'd have to wait. I'm sorry it arrived broken, but that happens and we do the best we can.

I had my Nook classic for 6 months until the bezel broke and I had to get a replaced one. I was sent a replacement in 3 days and I live all the way in alaska. It was very fast and they emailed me the shipping labels, it went very smooth to get my new nook classic.

I hate this practice. If the device is less than a few months old, I think you should get a brand new one to replace it. A lot of manufacturers do it now, and it stinks.

They didn't give you the option of returning it to the store? I might have done just that, then bought a new one on the spot.
