Reading ebooks on a Blackberry

I know people have discussed this before, but has anyone any news on a suitable app for the Blackberry Storm to read ebooks? (Before my other half drives me nuts!). He wants to read epub books from my vast collection of free books on his Blackberry. He has tried the Kobo app but it only redirects him to their store and as we are in Australia he can't buy the books.

You can convert the library to .mobi using calibre. He can read .mobi files using MobiPocket reader, which is a decent reader, and the only blackberry reader I have any experience with.

You can use calibre to transfer the files to his phone's SD card. The software can be configured to convert on transfer, so you don't need to run all of your books through the converter - converting on transfer would naturally make the transfer process last longer.

Keeper has written an ePub reader for Blackberry. It's available here, with versions for OS6 and earlier. It's still in beta, though, so not all features will work and not all ePubs will work.

I would go with the Mobipocket reader and Calibre conversions myself ...

Other types e-book readers

Can I read Amazon's Kindle version of books with other types of readers?

This is the setup I use. Calibre is an amazing program. I have a Storm 2 and when I drop it into its cradle, attached to my PC, calibre recognizes the phone and shows me what books are in the MobiPocket folder on it. I can transfer, and convert if needed, any non-DRM book in my calibre library. I also buy and read books using the Barnes and Noble App on my Storm.

I have been using the Storm as a reader for over a year now, and have read more than one hundred books on it. I find that I now always have a book with me, usually a bunch of books. Anytime I have a free minute or more, I can get in some reading.

I haven't bought a Nook, Kindle, etc. because i can't imagine one of them being nearly as convenient and portable as my Storm. It is also my alarm clock, so I have it on my person from the time I wake up until I go to bed. A separate reader would just be one more thing to carry around.

btw, In MobiPocket, I set the background color to a gray about the same as on this forum and the text color to the darkest gray available. I seems easier on the eyes.
