I purchased my Reader from Sony using their credit. I know I'm paying more then $337 for it. But I also get to pay $41 a month till it's payed off by Jan 2008. So I didn't have to outlay the entire amount in one go.

Last weekend Fry's Electronics was selling the reader for $299 in their Phoenix stores. I don't know if they still are or if all of their stores had that price, but it might be worth checking out.

Is it me, or has the price now dropped down to $287 on Abt's website?

Remember "Suggested Retail Price"

A retailer can not sell a product under said price until the manufacturer releases it from its obligations.

That may perhaps be the case in Canada, but in the UK price-fixing is illegal. No manufacturer here is allowed to dictate or control what a retailer sells a product for.

Interesting!
There is an other bullying operation manufacturers use also. They forget the retailer's shipping address!

And that's after it just went up from $324 when I bought it a few days ago.

I'm on the phone with them for their "Low Price Guarantee" so I'm now getting a $37 refund back to my credit card. Cool!

A nicer deal

I've been on the fence about getting a reader for quite some but finally decided to get the Sony today because of this rebate. I actually purchased mine at Crutchfield.com for only $279 (free s/h and no tax). This was after a $50 instant rebate and a $20 coupon (code 3A171).

ABT isn't far off at $287 but I think Crutchfield's return policy/customer service is probably better. They offer a 30 day return policy and free return shipping. So to anyone who hasn't been sure about getting a reader, now is the time!

BTW, the code I mentioned is only valid when you pay by VISA. More details here: http://usa.visa.com/personal/discoun...=28&pageId=197

If you really want to get a good deal and don't mind getting a new CC, sign up for the Chase Sony Card and, if eligible, you'll get a $150 credit on your first purchase. So... if you get it from Fys for $300 -$150 credit = $150, a good deal in itself, but when you add the $50 Connect credit (I know it's $150, but the extra $100 for "classics" I don't consider a credit, since they're freely available as it is). I dont' mind having an extra CC, especially if it saves me this much out the gate. BTW I paid it off almost immediately, so it was the same as paying cash with an extra step.

It appears the $100 credit for the SonyStyle card may have run out on 5/31
