Auto page turning

I just recently read that this was possible by turning on text to speech and turning the volume all the way down. This is a great feature so I gave it a try.

The first book I read worked just fine. I even found out I could adjust the speed so I didn't have to wait on the page turns.

Since then, I have tried it on at least a half dozen other books and it will only work for the first page or maybe two. After that, I sit there and wait and nothing happens. I eventually have to go back to manual page turning. All of these books are working with the text to speech if I turn the volume back up.

Any ideas?

How strange! Never had this happen though I haven't used this feature for a while.

Maybe plug in some earphones (but don't wear them)and turn the volume up a notch so the page turning works without you hearing anything?

Sounds like some kind of bug or glitch.

Also you're sure you're not hitting the spacebar by mistake? As that pauses the text to speech if I remember correctly.

I was thinking I might be hitting something but when I click on the "Aa" button there is still the choice to "pause" available.

BTW, it was your blog where I read that I could do this at all. I had forgotten until I saw your name. Thanks.

No you won't lose anything.

There are 2 methods for a reboot.

Firstly when Kindle is on hold the off slide across for about 10-15 seconds.

The screen will go blank and then it will do a full restart.

Second method

Press Menu
Press Settings
Press Menu
Press Restart

Same thing, screen will blank, and do a full restart. You will see the child siting under a tree and a progress bar will go across the screen.

Don't be alarmed if you have collections and when the screen pops up they are all zero. Wait another 5 seconds and they will fill back up.

From Home screen, choose Settings from the menu. On the menu there, there's a Restart option. Restart won't lose anything except the web page the web browser is pointing to. Restart will do some cleanup (remove temp files, reset memory), probably good to do once in awhile, and when TTS goes south.

There's also a 'Reset to Factory Defaults' - but that is for other situations (e.g. you are giving your Kindle away, or Amazon CS tells you to). This will remove all your content and deregister your Kindle, so you would want to do this only as a last resort (which this situation is not).

Resetting your Kindle wouldn't cause you to lose anything. You just need to hold the power button 15 seconds (Reset Kindle)

What happens if you turn up the volume while the reader is "stuck"?

While the Kindle is already in text to speech mode, press the "Aa" button again and you will see the choices of slower, default, faster.

Thanks all for the reset info.

If I turned up the volume once it was stuck, it would just be silent. But if I looked back under the text to speech settings it was still turned on.

So far, the reset has worked! I just tried on a book I was trying to have the pages turn on last night and it's now working fine.

Thanks very much!

You should also report it to Amazon via kindle-feedback@amazon.com - they actually pay attention to what people email them

Not impossible but unlikely that they would do anything. I sent them a list of 10 bugs/problems/improvements and all I got back was 'thank you'... and none of them were fixed/appeared as of now. So I would say don't waste your time and enjoy reading

The feedback email is for suggestions, etc. If you have an actual problem, you should contact Kindle Support.

Not sure whether this was meant for me - anyway, from some reason I may be the odd one out with Amazon CS - I tried them once with an actual problem and I just gave up after three emails. Basically they behaved according to the slogan 'be polite without being helpful'. They always replied within 24 hours, always repeating the same thing - please call us. Even though I specifically mentioned that I do not wish to call and I wish to communicate via email which should not be a problem as the problem was static and did not need interaction. Just my experience, I am sure many others had more luck...
