Kindle Won't Turn On
I just joined this forum, but I haven't been able to figure out how to post until I came to the end of this thread. Sorry, but my problem is unrelated to the foregoing. My problem is I'm on vacation in Switzerland (from the US), and I brought my fairly new Kindle -- which suddenly won't turn on! It was fully charged, and what happened was that some screen suddenly appeared that asked where I wanted to go to. I must have hit some key to bring up this note, but I couldn't get out of it. I gave up, and turned the Kindle off -- the way I do when my computer gets locked and I can't get it moving. Now when I try to turn it on, the green light flashes, but IT WON'T TURN ON! I can't contact Amazon, because I don't remember my password -- which is written down at home. Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to wait two weeks to fix it when I get home.

If it still won't start try sliding the power switch and holding it for 30 seconds. Then it should do a full reboot. But it will take some time, so when you have released the power switch sit back and relax for a while. And if it still won't start I'd try charging it again for a while before trying a reboot again (I know you said it was charged, but stranger things has happened, batteries aren't always reliable.). btw: have you hacked it or done anything otherwise unconventional with it? |

@RexGalore is right. My K3 locked up and would not respond in any way to the power switch, even to turn it off. I plugged it into an electrical outlet (not USB) and after a short while, the screen control returned and I was able to resume using it. As I mentioned in other posts on MR, turn the K3 off with the power switch (about 5 seconds) to a blank white screen BEFORE putting it into the Kindle cover if you are using one. You can then insert the cover hooks without problems, and the K3 will resume in a second or two from that off mode after you remove it from the cover. Do not insert the hooks in the automatic 'sleep' mode -- turn it off. Do not use the cover when using the K3 and you'll have no problems. A minor nuisance to turn it off, but it's only 5 seconds off and 1 second back on.
