How can this be justified?
Saw this book in Indigo today, checked online when I got home and the hardcover edition is the same price - $7.59 with iRewards membership ($7.99 without). The eBook is $11.99!!!
Having just purchased a Kobo for my wife and considering getting another one for myself, when I see examples such as this one - there are lots of others - I wonder if publishers/distributors are taking unfair advantage of people buying and using these devices. I'll pay a reasonable price for anything but I'm sure such practices will only encourage piracy. Keith |

No generally they are not that high.
If you check out the Amazon link, the hardcover is showing as $ 2.90 and the ebook at $ 8.99. My guess is they are trying to get rid of the hardcovers. Sometimes the ebook is the same price as a new release because the publishers don't want to discourage people from buying the hardcovers. Kind of like how the cheaper paperback version doesn't come out for 6 months to 2 years. Generally though the ebook is the same price or less than the paperback. Also, Kobo offers a lot of coupons via email, so make sure you use those up! |

Have your tried your local library for ebooks? Usually, they have the top selling authors. If yours doesn't have a good selection, try the Philadelphia Free Library, $15 yearly member ship for out of state residents. Here is a good thread on the subject. |

The Kobo is supposed to be capable of this but I haven't yet had the opportunity to try it. Our local libraries don't yet have ebooks available. Since last spring they've been saying its coming "soon". If we take to the Kobo or eBook reading in general, might well look into the FLP. Thank you for the link.

I would imagine other sellers are just trying to clear out their HB inventory, too, and are slashing prices to make room for the paperbacks. HBs are *big*. |

***The book, Stone Cold, is an agency priced book here in Canada, which means that the Publisher, not Kobo, sets the price***
And the same doesn't apply to treebook cover price, which can be slashed to loss-leader levels by the retailer. This creates the situation where ebook cover price is sometimes as high or even higher than the discounted paperback or even hardback. I get the feeling that such treebook cost-cutting is the stores' backlash against the Agency 5 ebook pricing model. Cheers. Neil |

Seems the very reasons that eBooks should be cheaper - minimal production/distribution/inventory costs compared to paper books - also is making them retain higher prices when the stocked books drop. There are no problems with overproduction or inventory excesses with eBooks so they don't have to dump them.
