1 week with my new daily edition(bit long)
I LOVE MY NEW SONY DAILY EDITION 950.
This is my first week with my new daily edition and I have to say that it is very underrated. This is my 3rd Sony device, I also had a 505 and a red 600 in the past, but do not consider myself a fan boy. The 505 was long considered the best eReader out there, but the daily reader has made that one totally obsolete. I broke down and bought a Kindle 3 when they were first released, and thought that the wonderful Amazon device would make me content. My wife had a Kindle 1. By confession, I am a gadget-aholic and the specs of the Daily edition called to me. So, eBay to the rescue, my kindle is sold, my 950 is bought, and my marriage lives to see another day. All I can say is wow, the new touch screen technology + pearl screen is heavenly. It is fast, responsive, and a joy to use. The Internet browser is very usable, just not something for me, I have an iPad for that. The newspapers are almost perfect, I have a Wallstreet Journal subscription and really like it so far. The metal case makes it seem like it is a higher quality than my plastic Kindle. Yes, the silver is not the best, but a matte finished DecalGirl skin will come soon. The Kindle fonts are pretty incredible, but I have already converted many books with different fonts on the Sony, so thumbs up there. Battery life seems to be on par with the Kindle, charge it up every few weeks. I am an avid reader, and will come up just short of 100 novels this year. The daily editing 7" screen feels just right for my eyes. I like that the reader is simply longer and not wider than the 6" screens. I feel that a too long horizontal line of text tires my eyes, no landscape for me. Sony's beautiful, minimal bezel case makes the overall form factor a real win. The 950 is nearly identical in size to my Kindle 3. Weight is very light, hours of reading with no fatigue. Contrary to many reviews, I like the Sony lighted cover and use it in low light situations, but it is most often naked. The touch interface makes holding your reader with either hand a breeze, and very workable. Comparing this to the Kindles's tiny page turn buttons is almost laughable. Highlighting, note taking, and exporting make record keeping an easy thing to do. I love the word log that is created when you look things up in books or in pdf's. I really think that Sony should not make any compromises. They should continue to make the most ergonomic, attractive, well built, and fully loaded readers. Yes, they cost more, but they are simply better than the competition. If you have not seen a Sony Daily Edition in person, do yourself a favor and check one out before you buy a new eReader. I love my new daily reader. I want to be your LatexSalesMan! |

I also agree with everything except the "kindle fonts are incredible." I really prefer the Sony font, I think that it is much easier to read than the blocky Kindle font. The kindle font is fine but when the two are together to compare I think that the eye follows the Sony font much smoother.
