				How to delete flies?

How do I delete a file from my (stock, un-rooted) nook Color? In particular, these are video files that were downloaded using the web browser.

I can see the files when using the "library" in the "My Downloads" folder, and the video is indexed in the "gallery" function, but neither has any option that I can find to delete the files. I tried connecting it to my PC, and I can again browse to the "My Downloads" directory, but I can't delete it in the Windows file explorer. When I hit delete, Windows seems to do something, but if I back up and then go back to the folder, the file is still there. I can't find any way to actually delete it. Is there any way to delete a file? Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug that B&N will hopefully fix? |

Use shift-delete when you delete from windows and it will remove the files. I don't use windows my co-worker does and the "move to trash" version of delete won't hide the data from the gallery.

OK. I'll try that when I get home tonight. Thanks for the tip.

I just tried the shift-Del and it did not work. It did bring up the dialog "Are you sure you want to permanently delete this file?" I hit yes, and it disappears from the folder, but if I browse to another folder and then come back, the file is still there.

I went in and tried to change an attribute (it has the Archive flag set) on the file, and I got an error that it failed to change the attribute. There must be some way to delete files, right? |

It sounds like your device has some errors and is only mounted read-only. I have seen behavior like that with some SD cards. I am not sure how to help you though.

I did not have this happen on mine. I found no way to delete a screen shot on the device, but once I plugged it in to the computer, a simple <Delete> took care of it.

Thanks for the help, everyone. I figured out that it was a problem with my PC (though I'm not sure what it is exactly).

When I connected the nook with a different computer (running XP), I was able to delete the file without any problem. Now to figure out what is wrong with the driver on my Vista machine. |
