Here's a good idea.
I saw this at the beginning of a book. It would probably work better at the end of the book, but it's a good idea. Anything else that could be added to it?
---------------- If you enjoy TORMENT and want to help expose the rest of the world to the story, here are some ideas. Everything below can be accomplished with no cost and just a few minutes of time. Spreading the word will help ensure that Sentinel (my second book) sees publication and potentially two more novels in the TORMENT universe. SKIP to Table of Contents On Amazon: • Post reviews • Create Listmania lists featuring other bestselling Kindle novels in the horror, thriller and other appropriate genres with TORMENT featured in the top spot.* • Create a So You’d Like To... Guide, featuring TORMENT, and similar novels.* • Add tags to the product page. These literally take seconds to add. Appropriate tags include: Horror, terror, zombies, zombie, post-apocalyptic, apocalyptic, kindle, thriller, science fiction, religion, Jeremy Bishop, gore, action, splatter, bloody, action adventure. * Lists and Guides only work when lots of books are added, up to 40, so load ’em up! On BN.com (Barnes&Noble): • Post reviews. • Click the Facebook Like button. • Create an Essentials List with TORMENT in the top spot (same idea as a Listmania list). On Goodreads: •Post reviews. • Add to any lists you have. • Hit the message boards or start a discussion. • Use the Recommend button to tell your friends about the book. On the Web: • Blog about the book. • Hit Twitter and Facebook with praise and links. • If you belong to a message board, start a conversation—I promise, this book will bring up some topics worth talking about. Thanks for your help! |

It is a very good idea. Readers may not realize how important these steps are--especially for new and/or little-known authors and books.

Wow, I just checked out Torment. That looks pretty sweet. I'm going to have to drop it into my cart and pimp the author

Great idea! I hadn't thought of listing those places. I'd be careful to word it such that you acknowledge the reader doing you a HUGE favor by doing any of these things, though.
I added this paragraph to the end of Venom: As an independent author, I don’t have a team of publicists and marketing specialists to spread the word about this book. Oprah has never heard of me (and I doubt she’d be interested anyway). I’m just a writer sitting at my keyboard searching for readers like you. If you enjoyed the story, please tell a friend! If you are so inclined, reviews or ratings on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, Shelfari, LibraryThing, etc. would also be greatly appreciated. |

Something else that would be worth putting in would be a request for donations from people who have acquired it for free somewhere.

I like Kcmay's blurb better. The subtlety works better for me. On the other hand, it'd be great to have readers do that for our books.

Could it be done with URL links on readers that have some sort of internet capability, or would that be beyond most devices?

I'm going to suggest my publisher add something similar to all ebooks they publish. What a great idea!!

As a reader, I think that's a great idea. I also like KC's blurb a bit better, as I feel like I'm being instructed in the other, rather than requested. Maybe some mix of the two, where it really does sound like it's more a suggestion and less a demand (I know the first wasn't a demand, but- speaking as a reader- it did put me off just a touch- like that's a big time investment for ME to make to help YOU market your book).
(hope it's ok that I stick my head in here occasionally and comment, even though I'm just a reader!) |

Yeah, I'd probably put the "call to action" at the end of the book and just ask the reader to do one thing. Leave a review at your favorite bookstore or whatever. The simpler you make something, the more likely someone will do it. If they enjoyed the book.
I could see all that backfiring too. That's a pretty presumptuous list of requests IMO, and the stuff about Amazon lists feels like the author trying to game the system. Too, it takes up space in the sample pages area if it's up front. I want to see your story there, not your marketing plan. ![]() Last edited by GoblinWriter; 12-23-2010 at 06:32 PM. |
