Kindle Died
I got my Kindle working after 5 times of trying to reset it.
![]() ![]() ![]() My 2 month old Kindle3 died. I can get my collections menu up & the last page of the book I finished reading yesterday, but nothing else. I can't read any books nor can I connect to the wifi. It isn't because my wifi connection is down either because I can connect with my Nook. I tried holding the slide for 30 seconds but nothing changes. Oh one other thing. I was shopping at the Kindle Store when it all stopped working.. I do have a Best Buy extended warranty so hopefully they can fix it if no one here has an idea what is wrong Last edited by Pomtroll; 12-06-2010 at 11:43 PM. |

It's not dead if you can see anything on the screen. You probably need a Reset to Factory Defaults. Follow NiLuJe's instructions below but copy the contents of your Kindle's "documents" folder to your computer if you can, because this reset will wipe out all of your content. You can copy it back onto the Kindle after the reset.

Before you reset to the factory defaults, try a plain old restart. Try plugging it in, then hold the slider to the right until it restarts.

After my 5th attempt I got it working. I held the slider for a whole minute instead of 30 seconds. It flashed twice & then all of a sudden started. The only thing I can figure is that a book got stuck while downloading & the restart got it moving.
I had tried various things including plugging it into the wall & trying to reset. But the reset wasn't working until I held it for a whole minute???? Thank you for replying ![]() |

Whew! I am glad it worked out!
I was gonna recommend placing the clamps from a car battery jumper cables to opposite ends of the Kindle and starting the car engine. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed, and a simple soft reboot did the trick. |

As an engineer my motto is: If it doesn't work, get a bigger hammer or jumper cables.

As a retired engineer my motto is; Don't fix it if it ain't broke. Engineers looking for things to fix are just looking for work.
