I suppose it rather depends your definition of best and affordable. I don't know whether you already have an e-book reader, as your device is shown as "None". If you can afford it, the Sony PRS-650 includes two English dictionaries: (1) New Oxford American Dictionary - Second Edition © 2005 (2) Oxford Dictionary of English- Second Edition © 2005, as well as ten bilingual dictionaries. It think very are all pretty good.

Most ebook readers don't allow you to choose dictionaries (if they even have one). The Kobo WiFi has a dictionary, but I have not seen any favorable posts about it. The B&N readers have a small dictionary. Sony and Kindle are the best for dictionaries. The Kindle even has a few dictionaries for sale in addition to the built-in Oxford dictionaries. If you want to test the Oxford American, it is built into the latest Kindle for PC app.

Heck, what is the best dictionary is a debate from beyond our times, not even considering the attributes 'affordable' and 'electronic'. I cherish my two copies of W7NCD 1971, one held together with a string. My micro-OED is too big to be 'best'.
A good test might be to look-up the word "proactive" and, if found, REJECT that dictionary as inevitably corrupt for political correctness. |
